CompuBox is trash, not accurate at all. Not sure why people even try to cite CompuBox stats. They are never accurate upon video analysis of fights. Last I scored the fight, I had it 6-4 with two even, Mayweather. Wouldn't have been a bad decision if Castillo had of gotten the nod.
This belongs in classic. As for who won I think most non biased observers believe Castillo deserved no worse than a draw. He was the champ and he pressed the action. I scored it for him by 1pt. I know Harold Lederman had Castillo as a wide winner. As did several major outlets. Dan Rafael scored it a draw. Close fight difficult to give to Mayweather. The fact one judge didn't give Castillo any rounds beyond the 7th during a period Castillo dominated proves that this fight was scored before the opening bell. Fix
if you are an ass kissing fool like dan rafael you gave it to floyd but everyone knows who won that fight
That he did, 7-5. Mayweather spent too much time on the ropes and in retreat, and wasn't at his peak yet.
114 - 114 But came away with the perception that Castillo deserved it more. Floyd set the record straight in the rematch.
Very easy to get swept up in the fight when a guy who slaughters everybody has a tough night. GGG v Jacobs was very similiar. No one including myself thought jacobs would make the 12 so when he made it very competitive i could not fault anyone for thinking jacobs took it out. Though watching it back GGG won the fight. May v cotto was the same for me. Watched it live and had floyd winnin by only 1 or 2 rounds. Watching it back cotto only got 2 or 3 rounds but all rounds he made floyd work to win
I'm in the minority here, I have Floyd 7-5 over Castillo. Close great fight, Castillo intimidate Floyd with his presence, stay in front and punch with him. An opponent can do that to Floyd when he just move up to a particular weight class, when Floyd is unsure of his opponent strength, similar case can be found with Baldomir and Oscar fight.
This whole "you gotta take it from the champ" argument is silly. The fight regardless of whos the champ, whos backyard you are fighting in and whos the bigger star is scored by the 3 criteria (effective aggression, defense and ring generalship) on a ROUND BY ROUND basis. The take it to the champ argument should always be considered but its not a rule. I might rewatch it tonight if i have the chance
Also people need to understand floyd gave castillo an immediate rematch. This shows floyd was confident he won OR he was confident the shoulder injury he had in this fight hindered him enough to win a close decision or lose the fight. Alot of people say floyds a coward and a runner but to give castillo an immediate rematch took alot of balls and was incredibly risky. He cops **** from haters to this day about their first fight, can you imagine if he never silenced the critics inthe rematch?
Fight was close and could have gone either way. Like a true great Mayweather gave him an immediate rematch and proved he was the better man.
That's fair. But even if you score it on those 3 criteria you listed I felt Castillo was better on two of them effective aggression and ring generalship (he repeatedly forced Mayweather to the ropes) Now add in he was the champ and I think Castillo nicked the W. no worse than a draw. Seeing the title change hands the way Floyd was dominated from the 7th on wasn't the right call
Yeh i wont ever argue with anyone who thinks castillo won it was a tight fight and could have easily gone to castillo. Castillo deserves credit for doing alot better in the second half against mayweather who typically figures you out and DOMINATES you in the second half. I dont like to bring up injurys as an excuse for a bad performance because often its just astraight up bull**** excuse HOWEVER i think the evidence is clear when floyd complains early ish in the fight to his corner about his shoulder and given the fact he immediately rematched castillo and did ALOT better shows me theres significant evidence to suggest mayweathers injury did effect his performance significantly on the night. If castillo was awarded the win officially and we had the rematch go the same way (comfortable may decision) would you really hold it towards mayweathers career? Recently we have people still viewing brook as undefeated because his one loss was 2 weight divisions higher in a one off fight against the most dominant fighter we have seen at that weight in a long long time. I just dont understand why these threads keep popping up. They should be moved to the classic forum
Well, I played the fight in slow motion, in black and white and sat at a 45 degree angle while watching and scored it to Castillo by a round.
