Personally I think this is the best card we've had so far this year. And i'm looking forward to being there and watching it live. Smith vs williams is clearly the stand out, and its refreshing to see the best two brits in the division face off against each other. Hard to split, my heart says williams but my head says smith. Flanagan vs Petrov, not straight forward in my opinion, but hopefully flanagan can have the type of performance he showed against magdaleno. I would personally like to see the Crolla fight next for Terry, however £1million for crolla that Eddie is demanading is ridiculous! Three other fights which i'm looking forward to are: Catterall vs Gethin, Jack needs a good performance to back up the hype, and push for a big domestic fight against either Davies jr, Davies or Taylor. Gethin is not to be underestimated. Tete vs Villanueva, Understandably gone under the radar, but technically this could be fight of the night. Both are top fighters, and hopefully the ScouseAfrican can put on another show. Godding vs Kelly, now the only time ive seen kelly is when he got beat up by smith. Godding was previously ranked number 2 light middleweight in the country and gave corcoran a good fight with 2 weeks notice. This is a strong competitive local dustup, and I'm backing Godding to overpower Kelly and stop him late. Although Frank is pushing the debuts of Adams, and Dubois. I'm more interested in seeing Thompson, Heffron, Barrett and Leak. I've seen alot of both Barrett (one skillfull slick mutha****er) and Leak (one seriously badman) and think they could both be British champs in the next couple of years!
I need someone to school me on Petrov why is he considered so dangerous to a guy claiming to be one of the best in the division? He's had a lot of fights but he's lost every time he's stepped up and has fought a lot of journeyman type characters. After 25 fights he was still fighting novices and not just as a one-off warm up either. So what does he bring to the table, only one stoppage loss so he looks to be tuff? Just under 50% KO ratio, so not a huge puncher. Does he have good work rate? Good fundamentals? Is he slick and hard to hit? I've heard Warren saying this is a 50/50 fight but surely if Turbo wants to be the best this should be a decent but relatively comfortable night out?
He's not. Your summary is bang on. Linares, Garcia wouldn't drop a round against Petrov and as you say, if Flanagan wants to get in with either of them he should be schooling Petrov. It probably is the best card of the year but that's not saying much tbh because we haven't had much so far. Tbh I'd say that the Haye-Bellew card was better on paper.
I'm sorry but the haye bellew card was terrible. I'm a fan of both malignaggi and matthews but they should have both retired 12 months ago.
I agree, it's not a 50/50, terry is obviously the favourite, however petrov did go the distance with zlaticanin, and has got that experience of challenging for world titles. Petrov i'd say is on a similar level to darleys perez/ismael barroso. i.e fringe world level.
A good solid card in my opinion, really looking forward to Williams vs Smith. How many tickets do you lot reckon this show will shift?
Williams vs Smith best fight on the bill has potential to be best fight between Brits this year. I fancy Williams on a split
Like most, I can't wait for the Liam's fight. Underwhelmed yet again by a Flanagan opponent but hopefully he can look somewhere as good as vs Magdelano. I'm hoping Gethin can drag Catterall into a horrible fight to see what he's made of. I'm still to be convinced with the hype and I like the romance of Gethin having a supposed farewell fight a few months ago to this opportunity now.
Smith-Williams will steal the show Come on Williams! And if Flanagan doesn't box petrovs ears off the shouldn't talk about Linares or Loma.. Mind you, he's not really anyway, he's bypassing them and talking about crolla.. Flanagan knows his lane
100%. i know its a world title but i don't see why Flanagan/Petrov is main event. Smith/Williams will be a FOTY contender imo, so the fans will be riled up and invested in the fight and once it's over, the crowd will go flat. i remember the same happening when Fury/Chisora came after Saunders/Eubank
great weekend of boxing on BT/Boxnation this week. The manchester card and then Loma, Usyk & Gvozdyk in the early hours, can't wait
Loma is a genius, the angles he creates, his variety, unbelievable Usyk, brutal fighter, clever too though. All makes for great boxing yes, going to be a good week end
