Sorry if this has been posted before. I know this bone takes a long time to heal but does anyone know how long exactly, I broke mine back in January street fighting, had a cast on for about two months and still can't punch with my right hand.:? Is this a common injury as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated.:thumbsup
That would be impossible to answer with an exact healing time, every one is different and heals differently. to start with it would really depend on the extent of the injury, you said you broke yours? but most commonly it is fractured also the speed of the healing process will depend on the treatment and techniques used to solves the problem.
LoBlow, a fracture and a break are the same thing. Standard treatment (in the UK anyway - as far as I know, you should see the doctor and be examined if it's worth posting on here) is 6 weeks in a cast, then if tenderness continues to have another 6 weeks. If still it's causing problems a bone graft maybe needed. You don't really want to leave it to chance if you're a boxer. It's the most common type of wrist fracture
I broke my scaphoid bone playing basketball a few years back. I had a cast on for 12 weeks and for about 4 weeks afterward I couldnt use my wrist much.
sheff-fighter i could be wrong, but i believe a fracture and break are different. as far as a i know, a fracture is a crack in a bone, a break is something actually breaks the bone in two, a seperation. once again, i could be wrong
Fracture is just the medical term for a break. You get different types and grades of fractures. Sorry if I'm coming across as a smart arse, it's just a fluke we're talking about something I have a vague understanding of.

You'll still be able to box, but in the beginning prepare for a lot more pain, tenderness and swelling when you use the hand. Right now you should try to use the hand as much as possible within your pain threshold. Hold weights, go through range of motion exercises, and begin to put some weight on it. But take it slow, cause you don't want to break it again. If the hand seems like it isn't getting better, consider some Physical Therapy and talk to your doctor to obtain an x-ray to see how the healing has progressed. It's best to try and AVOID an operation in which a plate and/or screws might be inserted.
OK, I was at the hospital yesterday and I have to get a bone graft done in about three weeks, thankfully the doctor said I'll be able to box again no problem after a few months but I was just wondering will this affect my punching power in any way? Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question but its been on my mind since I left the hospital.
