In the year of the upsets what do you think? Is it possible for Gvozdyk to get down again? Don't get me wrong this is not a hate against Gvozdyk, just 2017 is weird as ****. I think this fight will be interesting. Gonzalez showed he can be a good gatekeeper which Gvozdyk must pass.
Gonzalez is a risky fight for anyone, honestly I think he's better than a gatekeeper. He had very close fights against Pascal and Shabranssky, a lot of people thought he won against Pascal. He's at a similar level to Chilemba but hits far harder and is therefore more dangerous to Gvozdyk IMHO.
Pretty sure he will upset the Cuban viewers by getting spanked. But seriously, there is a chance of course. We have seen enough "certain" fights go the other way this year, and this is far from a certain win for GvOzD.
He's a good fighter, I think he switched trainers after the loss to Shabb. Will be an exciting fight.
The task for him is huge, as Gvozdyk is not only big but also skillful. But Gonzalez has been in the best training camp ever, getting top level couching from Pedro Diaz and Co., interestingly Pedro will not be the lead assistant to that fight, instead they put Yordanis Despaigne as head coach, a man with a realm of boxing experience, himself was a boxer, who fought among others Sillakh, another Ucranian 175 fighter ... For me the current fight bring memories of that other fight ... almost the same setting, being Sillakh as tall as Gvozdyk is ... but that Despaigne was more technical, although Gonzalez has more KO power ...
Gosh finally some people answered this thread !!! I am tired of all this Wilder, GGG and Kovalev vs Ward bull**** so I decided to create this one... I guess there aren't many people interested in this fight though.
Gonzalez is crude, especially for Cuban that has a deep amateur background (345-27), but he's a legit KO puncher with very heavy hands and he's strong, aggressive and he has a good chin. Gvozdyk is very talented and like Gonzalez he also obviously has a great amateur pedigree. He's a much better technical boxer than Gonzalez but Gonzalez's power can be pretty damn savage if he catches you right. Highlight reel KO savage. Gvozdyk can punch too though when he sits down on his shots and Gonzalez isn't exactly the most elusive fighter out there. Gvozdyk is better than Shabranskyy, who of course holds a win over Gonzalez. Contrary to what I've heard some of Gonzalez's people say and some of the Cuban fans, it wasn't controversial at all. It was very competitive and fiercely contested affair from start to finish but Shabranskyy was a clear and deserved winner. Conversely, I, as did many others, thought Gonzalez deserved the nod against Pascal, which again was very competitive and fiercely contested from first bell to last. So Gonzalez should really only have one loss on his ledger going into this. Gonzalez has more raw power than his countrymen Sullivan Barrera (who stopped Shabranskyy) but he's not as refined or skillful as him. Gvozdyk can outbox Gonzalez and he's capable of getting him out of there if he sits down on his shots when need be. However, he'll have to be careful he doesn't get clipped himself because Gonzalez's power ain't no joke.
I think that he is the one with more chance of pulling the upset, Hunter is good but i think that Usyk is levels above him and Sosa while brave, isn't in the level of Lomachenko. So imo Gonzales can put the upset, I'm not sold on Gvozdyk at all and i never was, but he is solid, great technique and timing , but he can be smothered, so imo it all depends if Gonzales can take the bombs while coming forward .
I expect this to be an exciting fight and would a win for Gonzalez really be a big upset? I think this is a 60/40 match because G is going to come in and look to grind all night. If he can handle the power and counter quickly this could be a heck of a show tonight.
I think if Gvozdyk listens to his corner, he will get the win. I watched some parts of the fight Gonzalez - Pascal and Gonzalez seems to struggle with boxers that have a good defense. Basicly he was way more active but his shots weren't so accurate. If Gvozdyk tries to go life and death vs Gonzalez, there is a huge chance for Gonzalez to become the winner.
Looks like Gonzalez indeed upset some of his Cuban fans last night. Hunter came much closer to an upset as he did, and even that wasn't really close.
