that...and i dont know if john david jackson is smart enough to make any real adjustments...dunno if anyone in that team/camp is......i could easily see virgil, with tape on kovalev, actually making a tweak or two that could make things even easier......but we shall see
I can see why you may think so but I buy Kovalev's claim that he gassed due to over-training, also I saw their first encounter a little differently than you did. I am confident Kovalev will channel any sense of injustice he feels into a composed, professional strategy, one that involves Ward eating power jabs and whatever else Sergey can throw behind them until somebody - referee, Virgil (probably not a conscious SOG) stops him while Ward is still breathing.
Kovalev is already mentally beat. He wants to hang onto the idea that he was the one that already beat Ward. He's enjoyed and depended on the validation of people telling him he won the fight (to help him try and convince himself of this further) and has made himself the fattest I've ever seen him between training camps. He's having to dig deep again, whilst Ward has kept in shape and has an aura about him that's truly playing to win. He's not intimidated of Kovalev anymore in the slightest. In the first few rounds, Ward was overtaken by the magnitude of the situation. He's a man who mentally preoccupies himself with the thoughts of greatness, and this was that fight that makes him the great fighter. He hadn't fought an elite opponent in a long, long time on top of this. Ward came back with a vengeance. Kovalev could've finished Ward but Kovalev backed off and didn't have the arsenal to be able to keep that level of activity and focus required to win rounds against Ward, up, over the course of the fight. Kovalev knows this and knows that Ward knows this.
Isn't the "over training excuse" something Kovalev also used in his previous fight? I'm not buying it myself. I think Ward's body shots played a more pivotal role in Kovalev appearing fatigued later in the fight than anything else. But you could be right. Maybe Kovalev can channel this energy towards something of a composed strategy where he is extremely focused. Maybe all of Kovalev's talk is just an act, and he is preparing for a strategic and intelligent game plan. But I think Kovalev is far more apt to come out overanxious this time around, and that is something I believe can play into Ward's favor. We shall see.
I'm no trainer. And I don't know much about boxing. But it seems to me Kovalev should remain committed to his jab, and work the body more. Perhaps there is something tactical in his approach towards positioning that can minimize Ward's favorable angles, while creating some for himself. But I tend to believe, as you hinted at, that Ward and Virgil are the more likely pair to come in with a plan that creates more favorable angles through positioning - and Ward was doing a better job creating angles down the stretch in the first fight as it were.
This attitude and bitterness only serves to help ward the boxer They love powerhouses trying to muscle their way to victory plays right into their hands . Floyd did it his whole career The more kov goes in for a knockout the easy ward will find to outbox him Ward by wider UD this time . More clear cut this time
You really don't think Sergey realizes he can't let his emotions get the better of him on fight night? Lol! You don't think he'll channel this anger into his training and then be nice and zoned in, concentrated and cool in the ring against Ward? Wards getting starched and I can't wait until the Sunday after in here
Hahahahaha!!!! Get him Sergey!! You got this! Rip that idiots skull off in June. This content is protected
