You may be one of the most irritating people on this forum with all the canned, corny **** that comes out of your mouth. You sound like an angst filled teenager. This is a boxing forum.
This is awesome...unbiased assessment . I'm picking Kovalev as I did the first fight - but just appreciative they made it happen
I hope you are wrong Rummy, i really really do. Just never been able to like Ward. But im not sure what more Kovalev has than what he gave us in the 1st fight and im not convinced he could ever be labelled a smarter fighter than Ward so i cant see a drastic change in tactics. Im just hoping he does the same thing but at a higher volume. But i think thats a big ask. He did visibly slow down as the rounds went on and ive seen this from him in a few of his fights. Also very happy the rematch got made. This along with Spence vs Brook are exciting times.
I apologise if my post caused you such distress as that was not my intention. I was merely speculating on the method Kovalev will use to make good on his promise to end Ward's career once and for all. I for one, believe that Ward deserves to go out with some dignity considering all of his accomplishments, do you not agree? A heroes end would surely be fitting- where he can go out on his shield, in his last ever fight where he will be remembered fondly for taking his beating, bravely and stoically.
Well you can look at it another way . Maybe Kov didn't expect to be able to hurt him so easily and simply was prepared to finish him off . Next time he may be better prepared to set up the counter right and have a plan to deal with Wards defense tactics . Kov is the fighter with options not WARD
Good video Rummy, But I have to disagree with your assessment, I think the second Pascal match proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Kovalev learns from his mistakes and knows how to make adjustments. Let's be honest, its not like the last 6 rounds were a wash and dominated by Ward, Kovalev definitely won the 10th and the 11th and 12th are toss ups. Kovalev was still adjusting to Ward's adjustments that far into the fight, Ward definitely didn't solve any puzzle there. Also you got to take this into consideration, how much the first match took out of Ward. Also, you know as well as I do if Kovalev comes in with blood in his eyes and just started swinging for the fences, he can KO Ward, because when Sergey starts swinging for the fences like with the second Boone match and the Cleverly match after he had Nathan hurt, he's very accurate.
Well, just a couple of points, as I think you tend to always, ALWAYS, sell Ward short going into his fights. 1. I don't think the Pascal rematch is a good measuring stick for what a Ward rematch might look like, and for a wide variety of reasons, chief among them, Pascal's style and instincts always played to Kovalev's strengths. 2. I think Kovalev certainly learned some things from their first fight. But I'm apt to believe that Ward not only learned more about Kovalev than Kovalev learned about Ward, but I'm also of the belief that Ward can better utilize what he did learn in a rematch, in addition to learning more on the whole. 3. Ward may not have completely solved the puzzle, but I don't think there were many pieces missing. From round 7 through 11, the only round I thought Kovalev looked especially good in was the 10th, and I believe that had something to do with the fact Ward started clowning around and showboating like a fool, which allowed Sergey to land some crisp shots down the pipe. 4. Maybe this first fight took a lot out of Ward physically. I have no doubt that this was the most "taxing" fight of his career. But I'm inclined to believe the fight was more taxing on Kovalev mentally, than it was on Ward physically. 5. If Kovalev comes out swinging for the fences, no doubt Ward will need to be alert, focused, and on top of his game defensively with all his faculties intact. But again, there is a flip side to this. I have ALWAYS maintained that Kovalev is at his best when he works behind his jab patiently, and not when he's aggressively attacking, where he's more prone to make a mistake and open himself up to being off balance and susceptible to counters.
Rummy, I love you... we've been posting on this site for close to 20 years... but you shouldn't be doing boxing videos... with that voice... you need to be doing movie trailers my friend. Other than that, great video and I agree.
