In fairness, Rigondeaux never had the same backing/push that Golovkin received. And I can personally understand why Golovkin got that backing, and why Rigo didn't. Golovkin's style is more appealing, and he's in a more prestigious weight class (historically speaking, and currently).

But for that same reason, I also understand why Golovkin is in a position where fans are generally more "demanding" of him, if that makes sense. Golovkin is under a much bigger spotlight.

This. And let's be honest here, Rigo is way smaller at 122 than GGG is at 160. GGG is an average sized MW, Rigo is a tiny 122. GGG fought at 165 in the ams ffs lol, while Rigo fought at bantamanweight.

Man! I sure would LOVE to see Rigondeaux move on up to 130 and TRY to back up his trash talk against Loma :)

He can bulk up to that weight! He can just ask Louis Ortiz for tips on how to put on solid weight!

I agree, fans want to see fighters generally back up the hype behind them. But Rigo is a 2 time gold medalist, undefeated and generally considered a top 10 P4P. So for one reason or another the fans should demand good fights out of him (and to stay busy which he failed).

I'm afraid Rigo is already past it. It's only downhill for him now. I think he pretty much wasted his career. People forget how late he entered the pros and with his style he had a very limited time frame. He should have done a Lomachenko and just try to get as solid resume as possible even at the risk of losing here and there.

Yeah 122 is lame. In fact I don't look at those divisions bellow 147 as proper divisions, it's more like just some row of "catchweights" with fighters moving up and down constantly. The divisions are just a few pounds apart.

160 is at least a historic prestigious division that goes back to the 19th century. It's one of the most storied divisions along with LHW and the welters (with HW being the most prestigious division obviously).

You do realize that Rigondeaux is 5'4" and Lomachenko is 5'7" right? 5'4 is just about right, maybe even a little short for that weight class. 5'7" is more normal for lightweight. Plus, the little man is 36, past prime compared to Loma's prime 29. That **** wouldn't be fair at all. It would be like De La Hoya beating on Julio Cesar Chavez in '98. Although, with Rigo's elusive style and Loma's light touch Rigo might see the final rounds. However, if Loma cut weight to fight Rigo at Rigo's preferred weight the fight would be more fair.

I mean.. too bad soo sad! Rigondeaux was talking mad trash about Loma not too long ago and acted like he wanted that Matrix work! I'm sure Loma would agree to a 128 catch weight for a Rigo fight before moving up to 135. Rigo can put on that little bit of weight by the end of Summer and make this super fight happen!

Rigo's a normal size for his division just like GGG and often fights bigger guys cutting weight to make it into his division. Plus, it wasn't always a bad division. It used to have Frampton and Santa Cruz in it avoiding Rigo just like Jacobs, Eubank Jr, Canelo, and Saunders were avoiding GGG.

The p4p ranking doesn't get you good fights. Money does. Rigo hasn't been showered with money like a lot of the primadonnas in this sport. I don't demand as much of him because he doesn't demand as much of the fans. But if you charge me 50 bucks for pay per view, I'd better see you fighting King Kong and slaying dragons *****!

A call for consistency. The minute we start finding excuses, we are running from the actual issue - Rigo has been fighting nobodies. He fought one tailor-made elite fighter many years ago now. Let's see him move down and face the winner of Yamanaka-Inoue.

That's an appealing thought. Him and Inoue are about the same size actually.

Rigo Loma my p4p #1 in all of boxing. They need to fight each other and were all set but could not agree on a rehydration clause. The thing is Rigo is not going to get a bigger fight than Loma for his entire career. The boxing Gods need to make this happen.
