I think they made Sergio "Champion emeritus" They just wanted a belt of him so they can get more money really, same way how Joshua become "champion"
Yeah, tinman was correct. I had forgotten about that. Sergio was stripped of the WBC, which elevated Zbik from interim to full WBC, and then they had some bogus vacant "diamond belt" that the WBC had up for grabs when Martinez fought Dzinziruk.
These governing bodies these days don't help the fighters at all in becoming unified champion of the world. Brook and GGG fighting sub-par rejects some of the governing bodies drag up is appalling.
You are truly a massive pac fan. I'm big fan as well and I admire your enthusiasm. I think BJS is much bigger than clottey, margarito or Oscar. Those 3 are probably the biggest fighters that pac had faced. BJS is a full fledged middleweight and he can move and box as well. BJS will not respect pac power at all and will prolly beat him up.
If Cotto could beat a shot Martinez, I don't see why PAC (a much better fighter) couldn't put enough muscle on his frame to do damage at 160. He ate bombs from Margarito, so Saunders wouldn't hurt him. He'd be the fastest MW we've ever seen. I could see him evading and scoring on BJS all night. Maybe even catch him with a shot he doesn't see coming and drop him. PAC in 2008-10 was an absolute beast.
I say yes, but Saunders didn't hold a belt in 09-10. Sergio Martinez or Kelly Pavlik were the man then but Pac might have been able to beat Sylvester or Sturm.
This. Pac was a great fighter, but BJS isn't an over the hill Margarito. Saunders has quick hands and solid boxing skills. Saunders would get Pac out of there.
Anything is possible, but BJS is no Margarito, he's a very good boxer and has good movement and those are ingredients you need to beat pacquaio.. But I think BJS is too big and too technically sound for the smaller Pacquaio to overcome. It would have had to be a MW like Chavez for him to have a shot, so for everyone who mentioned Chavez Jr, kudos!
The governing bodies know that most fighters aren't going to pay multiple sanctioning bodies. Floyd could've easily became undisputed at 147, but dropped the WBO belt rather than pay the fees.
Probably not. Nor GGG Nor Jacobs. But he probably could have wrecked any version of MW "champion" Cotto.
That much is likely true. I was surprised at the time that Cotto never gunned for a Floyd or Pac rematch when he was middleweight champion. Seemed to me both of those fights would have (or could/should have) made sense.
Even more surprising that one of them didn't go after him for a MW "championship." It would have been lineal, after all.
