Genuine question Why is this even counted as a loss when Douglas was down for 13.5 seconds after the uppercut? Surely the referee shouldn't have this kind of power? The fact is - Mike Tyson won that fight. He knocked Douglas down, who then stayed down for 13.5 seconds. Genuinely curious as to why everybody puts this down as a loss purely because the referee cannot count? It's the same as a boxer winning on the score cards but then then the other boxing winning the fight due to a miscount.
This content is protected I'm not trolling, I am talking cold hard facts which not a single person can disagree with. Ff to 34:12, Douglas is clearly on the canvas. He isn't up until 34:26. That's 14 seconds. I'm genuinely not trolling, I'm curious as to why his is widely accepted when it's clear to see, Mike Tyson won that fight legitimately, it's actually a farce that he was allowed to continue after a 14 second count.
The ref didn't reference the ringside time keeper The ref was just over 2 seconds behind the true count...but ref can override it... Douglas was referencing th referee's count....and he made it...he got a few extra seconds but history stands. Doesn't change the fact Mike was spiralling out of control in his personal life. Unable to handle success and was on his way to losing anyway. For a man who could have remained unstoppable his resume is pretty bad. Mike should have been able to finish the job in the following rounds. No excuses here. Tyson Fury is the GOAT after Ali Wlad will beat AJ Pacquiao's is Arum's milking cow
The referee is human, he doesn't have caesium-133 atom to calculate how fast or slow a second should go lol.. Douglas followed the referee counts and legitimately beat the 10 count. It's irrelevant whether he was down more than 10 atomic clock's seconds.
Just showed what happened when a tall, rangy fighter with a good jab and good pop wasn't fazed by the whole Tyson mystique. Tyson had that bully mentality but when fighters fought back and weren't afraid to throw.. he often had the fight knocked out of him. 'Prime Tyson' is a bit overrated
Yeah he may be overrated with most fans. But this post isn't about that, it could have been any fighter and I've have said the same thing. Tyson won the fight legitimately. Quite strange IMO that it's just brushed under the carpet kinda thing, that's all. I'd have been pissed if I had money on Tyson!
It's completely relevant. Look in the rule book. You have 10 seconds. He was up in 14 seconds. Most fighters are waved off if they are up on 10 as well, or even 9.5. You see this all the time. Douglas being 40-1 has something to do with it, IMO.
I haven't watched the video above as I don't have much quota on my phone. but I thought he was following the referee counts. And in response to your reply to Todd, it was not swept under the carpet. Don King did try to overturn the result, but was unsuccessful. I'm a big Tyson fan, it's sad to see him crawling in the floor try to look for his mouth piece. But it what it is. All credit to Douglas for turning one of the finest performance and arguably to this date the biggest upset of all sports.
100% true. And the fact that Douglas was knocked down in brutal fashion also dispels the myth that this "wasn't prime Tyson". Tyson was good enough to drive Douglas to the edge of defeat, just not good enough to finish the job. This was as prime as it gets, and he got destroyed by Douglas in the next round.
