Just sift through your own post history if you truly want to see some of the worst most ignorant and diabolical material ever published on a message board.

I'm sorry to inform a zealot such as yourself, but the harsh truth is that Tyson was grossly overrated. If you want to pretend he was some ATG you have little choice but to perform mental somersaults, in order to provide a catalogue of excuses and create hypothetical scenarios on his behalf

Way too many hw would had ko'd that Douglass, many within a couple rounds. Douglas wasn't ****, Tyson wasn't truly **** either.

If Tyson had the same talent @6'4-6" 240/250 lbs he could had been a beast. He's grossly over rated by many, just about every fan over rated him. Even the ones who know how greatly limited he was like myself

Here we go with the bully myth, haters expose themselves quickly with this one. Plenty of fighters stood up to Tyson but didn't have the skill set to beat him. Funnily enough it took more than just standing up to Tyson to beat him, they couldn't just point a finger at mike and say "you don't scare me you mean man!". why didn't Ruddock win in that case, looked like he wasn't scared to me? Douglas just had the skills to give Tyson nightmares.

Buster that night had great skills, as said, he put it all together and was the full package. I'd pick him head to head against a few greats, it was his mentality as well, he was aggressive as well as calculated. Just a shame he couldn't repeat that at least once. Imagine if he beat Holyfield, which in that form I think he could have, would be like the bowe fight.

Thats part of it but make no mistake that tyson was nowhere near his peak. He had gotten dropped by one of his sparring partners a couple days before the fight ffs!

Of course skills played a part but that is my point. If you had skills along with the mantle not to be intimated by his reputation you'd have fared very well indeed. It is undeniable that his aura along with his bullying thuggish nature and menacing appearance won him most fights before they even commenced.

There is no question that Tyson beat many decent fighter - so did Bruno, Mccall, Ruiz and Rahman. However you'd hardly see many arguing that they were ATG's and coming up with all kinds of sorry excuses to explain away their losses and each of them had many. And then insult those who dare question their records as if they have slighted a member of their family.

The bolded part of your post further illustrates the point that you always have to perform mind tricks and imaginary scenarios to justify Tyson's career in order to make him out to be more than he actually was.

    Again more excuses.

Tyson was 24 years old when he fought Douglas, 4 years after becoming champion. That I'd say a boxer is in their prime physical state.

If that is not his peak when was it? You fast forward to when he got beat by Holyfield and then we have his apologists justifying the defeat by mentioning how he was past his peak.

well you can say that about most fighters, they can be beaten if a guy has the skill set and isn't intimidated, has happened to other greats as well as Tyson. but Tyson seems to get tagged with the bully label anyway, even though he took his beating and didn't quit?
he might have intimidated fighters before they got in the ring but his own skills played a part as well, not just that he looked menacing. I have no agenda with Tyson, I am a fan but know his weaknesses. He is barely in my top 10, although he is 1 or 2 for most exciting. I just jump on comments like yours because I dont really believe Tyson was a bully. before prison he was a lot less easy to discourage. Post prison Tyson probably was a bully using his past reputation, I'll give you that.

As for Tyson's condition for the Douglas fight its the old argument. I respect your opinion but dont understand it. How anyone can think Tyson was on form that night is beyond me. Other greats get a free pass when taking a loss, but some will never give Tyson any leeway with the Douglas fight. Despite him not being with his long term trainer, stories of not training, management problems, divorce problems, declining skill. what does age mean to these issues? being 24 does not cure anything if your head is a mess. the stories are endless, Tyson had problems for the fight and didnt expect to be fighting his hardest battle, if anything he expected it to be his easiest. Added to that I believe that Doulgas that night had the ability to beat a prime Tyson. no agenda bolster Tyson, its just how I see it.

Tyson should of won. The ref mishandled the count when Douglas was knocked down. Douglas should of been counted out.

No , Douglas should have been counted out and Mike Tyson was not the best heavyweight ever .
    He was a hypejob.
He was good but he was not as good as the media try to tell us.
The "prime" Mike Tyson , who would have obliterated any heavyweight fighter in history is a myth.

Many factors came into play. Aside from Tyson underestimating Douglas and having an inept corner that couldn't provide an enswell and were using a bag filled with room temperature water for swelling, people forget what the main reason was that caused Douglas to fight like a legend himself for only one night. He got inspired and had dedicated the fight to his beloved mother, who had passed away prior to the fight and it made him fight to a level only few thought he could actually fight in. Even tho he was a chubby guy, he was actually a very good athlete in his younger days and was known to under train, which led to him underperform, and not reach his full potential, making him lose fights he was never supposed too. After the historical upset in Tokyo, you can see the emotional Douglas dedicating it to his mother, it was basically the love to his mother that led to him crushing the most feared man on the planet. The guy was basically holding back tears till he couldn't no more. It was, and still is, heart wrenching to watch. But there's no doubt, Buster Douglas that night would had beaten MANY heavyweights. He was a man possessed.

Can the fighters bring their own corner or are they stuck with a Fresh Prince of Bel Air wannabe rubbing a condom full of bucket water on their face, saying, "Punch, punch." Hard to imagine anybody winning with that corner.

The long count always gets used as an excuse, Douglas could have got up sooner but listened to the refs count. Even if the count had been correct he would have got up in time and still won by KO.

No. Right place, right time, right style. Nothing more, nothing less. Most of the champs after him would easily destroy him.

Amazingly, Tyson was never the same even at this tender age. Douglas was very good this night, but this was also a LOT about Tyson falling off.
