Australians/New Zealanders pay top dollar to see their local fighters, even more than British even. I think David Tua vs Lennox Lewis is still the record holder for pay per view there. Plus, like the bar is significantly lowered because they so seldom have anyone decent. Mundine vs Geale was pay per view there.

On two weeks notice? Should they have spent a week calling each guy and negotiating or take the first available ranked guy?

And the one they KNEW had a visa to get into New Zealand, since he was just there. It can take more than two weeks just to get that worked out.

And had fought in Russia the previous year, probably had a still-usable visa or was able to get instantly cleared to enter the country since he had passed all the background-check protocols.

Very possible they already had him on standby. So really a very similar situation since this guy was just in New Zealand sparring.

If they wasted, say, a week checking each and every other ranked contender to see if they were available, whether they could get a visa, how much money they wanted, etc. ... you'd probably be down to a scenario where someone was fighting on a couple of days notice. IF they found someone ... or perhaps even this dude would turn it down without at least a couple of weeks' notice. Then they'd have no fight.

I wish Parker had passed on the May 6 date and worked out a summer date with Wilder instead, but given the circumstances -- HUGHIE FURY is the one who pulled out and created this situation, and I've yet to see them come public with ANYTHING to substantiate an injury -- this was the best they could do. Probably have to pay for the arena rent anyway and a lot of other expenses, there are undercard guys who deserve to fight and not lose a payday due to more Fury nonsense.

They were put in a basically impossible situation. They're doing the best they can.
