Who do you think (in their prime) would do better against the elite HW's from the past and present

I would take Vitali and I expect the majority will feel the same.
Wladimir has the greater legacy of course, with a far richer, deeper resume from which to draw conclusions, the more proven champion and a master of the style he was trained in under Steward.
Vitali, bigger and badder, while not as powerful a puncher or as refined a boxer has a toughness his brother doesn't and boasts an immortal chin. A more natural fighter, I would probably pick Vitali ahead of Wladimir in more hypothetical H2H scenarios.

Wlad hits harder, is lighter on his feet, has a better punching technique and is probably the smarter of the two.

Vitali is super-awkward, has a more unique style and THAT chin. He is also the natural fighter.

I think I'd go with Vitali. His durability puts him over the top for me. Lots of the greats were big hitters, and if Sanders' perfect counter-left and Lennox's uppercut from hell did nothing to him then I don't really see anyody else denting that chin.

wlad would be able to lose fewer rounds until he gets ktfo.

vital would last longer but lose more rounds.

I would say Wlad based on his much longer run of form against elite opposition.

A Ring Rating does not necessarily make one an elite.

It dosn't, but it is a fair indication.

The point is that Vitally Klitschko, was beating people who were less succesful at gaining this megre distinction, and less of them!

Aye, Vitali's opposition is maybe just bad enough that it's difficult to tell.

    Wlad's, better.

thats not the accepted def of elite. elites are a nmall group who can be trusted to beat everyone except member of that small group, surely? top ten doesnt make u elite at all, it makes you fringe world level to world level progressively going up, though the top 2-3 might be elites.

That's a fair enough position to take.

I'm less inclined, however, to draw on Wlad's record to merit his standing with the best Heavies ever, on a Head-to-Head basis. Surely, this scenario has more to do with relative strengths and weaknesses?

As one poster has already raised - What would present the greater challenge: Vitali's chin or Wlad's wrestling?

Each brother has different attributes and I would tend towards backing the man, with the qualities most likely to see him through a series of the toughest contests a Heavyweight could face. Vitali's proven granite hardness is something I would therefore favor.
