Wlad came in low for mobility it seems and AJ came in heavy expecting a clinch fest. They got the tactics all wrong. Im confidant of a Wlad win even more now.
That's because most tall guys who face him don't try and take the fight to him, they also look to use their height and fight at arms reach. Tony Thompson off the top of my head was the only tall guy who tried to make the fight take place at closer ranger. Wlad clinched the hell of him in the early rounds of the first fight, but a combination of the ref and Thompson's rough house tactics made Wlad clinch less and box more as the fight wore on. I think Joshua will also look to get closer to Wlad based of what I've seen in training. He knows Wlad is quicker and boxing with him will be hard. Which makes me think we'll see Wlad clinch a lot in this fight. Not sure how Joshua will cope with that.
WTF is there to understand? There are guys who are best at leading others best at counterpunching others can do both. Wlad does not know how to counter punch, he throws the check hook here in there that is about it. Wlad is best at leading with the jab and throwing other punches after. Your suggestion that Wlad would rely on counterpunching is nonsense. Hope it is it clear now???
I think Wlad has sold Joshua, his team, and lots of fight fans a huge dummy. Everybody is expecting the left hook to be the money punch, but Wlads right has dismantled numerous fighters and i wouldn't be surprised if thats what does the damage.
Wladimir isn't a counterpuncher , a counterpuncher is someone like Floyd Mayweather jr. , Juan Manuel Marquez , Pernell Whitaker and Canelo Alvarez. Counterpunchers want their opponents to do something , to make mistakes , Wladimir doesn't want his opponents to do anything , he avoids it while he is getting in the clinch with them. Wladimir usually leads a fight with his jab and his straight right hand , a counterpuncher is comfortable at boxing on the backfoot , which Wladimir is not.
If you say Wlad doesn't want his opponents "to do anything" then you're dead wrong. He wants them to be careless, get within his range of motion while exposing their guard. Wlad is teasing, parrying and setting up traps all night. Going in and out of range, trying to get an opponent to step inside his range and open up his guard. That *IS* counterpunching, like it or not. You idiots keep saying "Wlad is no counter-puncher, Floyd is one". The question is "Can Wlad counterpunch"? Look at the Pulev fight. He lured Pulev into making a step forward while lowering his left hand, which promptly gets punished by a straight right through the middle. Yes, that *IS* counter punching. Provoking an action of your opponent so you can get throughout their guard and defense while they get within range. IMO this is the only way he can win against AJ. We'll see if AJ falls for it.
Call me crazy, but I think Wlad will actually throw lefts to the liver if he sees a high guard. Joshua doesn't respond well to body shots based on his fight history.
