Most passing of the torch fight s involved one great fighter easily beating a former great. Holmes forcing Ali to pull out, rocky ko ing Louis and norris easily out pointing leonard. But which passing of the flame fight s were more competitive than normal.? Where one great fighter lost but put up a great fight? Any thoughts?
Walcott v Marciano 1. Corbett v Fitz Johnson v Willard Liston v Ali 1 Holmes v Spinks Good post as usual!
Thing is, that it isn't at all certain that this is a passing of the torch fight at all. The torch might very well remain with Wlad. That's why a "passing of the torch" is declared afterwards, if it happened, not before.
Your right in that but wlad V Joshua wasn't mentioned. It was fight s that had already happened, as mcvey above gave us some good ones.
McGuigan - Pedroza Pea v Oscar Buddy McGirt v Pea Bowe v Holyfield (the standard for a noble defeat) Holyfield v Bowe 2 (Not many others beat Riddick that night)
Larry Holmes vs Ken Norton. Norton was considered the best heavyweight for a few years before fighting Holmes. After Holmes lifted Norton's WBC belt, Larry was considered the top dog for the next seven years. Ali-Spinks 1 was a great fight. But I don't think Ali passed the torch to Leon because Leon didn't score a win in his next two outings. Ali sort of passed it to Leon ... and Leon dropped it.
