Can Pavlik KO an ageing Calzaghe?

This is what I don't get about you. Do you watch boxing with a flag draped over the TV?
How can you say with a straight face that calzaghe has never faced anyone of KPS calibre? Who the **** has KP beaten? Taylor and Miranda. That is it. Good wins, but two names and the rest is nothing, absolutely nothing.

Aside from that ANYONE just watching clips should be able to see that Kessler is faster, more skilled and a better boxer. As is Eubank.

Pavlik can KO Calzaghe, but he wont. He is wide open and slow. How can you not see that he is slow and easy to read?

Broken record time. Watch Pavlik/Taylor 2 back to back with Calzaghe/Kessler. Taylor is the fastest of the four. It didn't win him the fight. By fastest I mean being able to sling from full back to chin in the shortest time. Punches that mean something.

 

There is something about Pavlik that hardly anyone ever mentions, not even his most ardent supporters, that shows how little most people actually know about his career. Earlier in his career he was known for being a viscious body puncher, and put a serious emphasis on the importance of body work. I'll be the first to admit that McKart was way past his best when they fought, and was never on a level with Joe, BUT in 54 fights no one had stopped him, and he most certainly had enough left to give most "B" level fighters a rough night. It was a pavlik lead right to the body that led directly to Bronco suffering his first KO loss. And it was a body shot in the 11th that essentially sealed the deal in the second Taylor fight. Those are just two examples.

Kelly did not throw a lot of body shots in his last few fights, but that does not mean he has forgotten how. Joe frequently leaves his entire mid-section wide open, and that will be a significant part of his demise against pavlik.

 

What? I was saying that Calzaghe has faced people with better jabs than Pavlik and better speed, and better skills...in fact other than power he has faced better in every aspect of the sport.

So why would he find that Pavlik was a "different calibre"?

No, you're absolutely right. He crippled Rico Cason on ESPN with savage left hook in that two round beatdown some years ago. Of course as you said, the most savage punch he gave Taylor was that body shot in the 11th that signaled the end for Jermain. Of course he's more than a headhunter.

Maybe you fail to see that Pavlik has 'economy' of motion in his defense. Picks off and avoids more than you think. Yes, he eats a punch at arms length once it is spent. That is calculated on his part. It is the way he works. It is a FIGHT, he doesn't try to avoid ALL CONTACT. Would you take a thousand mosquito bites to pick up a cool million Euros? Same concept. It is the point Boo has made many times. Let Joe throw those fast short flurries. He WILL pay a price against Pavlik. Neither fighter is going to change their stripes for this one. Both have developed styles that work for them.

 

I think it is impressive that he had enough in the tank to hurt JT with a body shot in the 11th. How many fighters can go at that pace period?

 

I hear what your saying. I'll agree that at times Kelly looks sloppy, but he's so active, he just keeps comin' & eventually he gets in that devistating punch that spells the end for whoever. Kelly has enough skill & smarts to have over a 90% KO average. And he's taller & has more reach than Joe. I don't think I'm being unrealistic at all in how I see this fight turning out. I've said it before & I'll say it again...

Slap, Slap, Slap & then BOOM! The beginning of the end for Joe.

So maybe its true. That the hell. I take my boxing seriously & when I see someone that has the attributes that make up what I consider the ultimate fighter, & taht includes OUT of the ring, Kelly fits that description to a T.

I noticed him back in Nov 2004 after the beat Ross Thompson because of his last name. I have relatives named Pavlik. The name jumped out at me. Once I got a closer look, I saw very impressed. KP is a tremendous example of how to succeed as a professional fighter. It takes more than just fists.

I never paid much attention to him until the McKart fight. After that I learned all i could about him. He is definitely my favorite now.
