Dude damn near had middleweight speed with crazy head movement. He just lost to younger stronger fighter. I have a new respect for Klitscho seeing him do it against the best at 42 years of age and look that damn sharp. I only wish he fought this way during the last few years before he lost to Fury
Yeah, he really tried a different style for him and it worked well, almost worked great. I hate dropping movie references, but I got to admit it reminded me of Rocky III
We had Roger Federer winning the Australian Open and John Higgins is into the world snooker final. Advanced ages in their respective sports. Nothing but a number. (if you're that good) I think tonight would have been the greatest achievement of the lot if Wlad had won. It was still a great effort. I don't normally watch Wlad, but a close mate of mine loves Joshua so there was no choice. I was just thinking, all heavyweight fights are now rubbish because I don't pay as much attention. So glad I was wrong and even better that I watched it live. Wouldn't be the same knowing the result. Wlad was doing some dancing and not the Amir Khan type.
I can't believe he is 41 years old , i have never seen him better , great performance from Wlad , he shouldn't retire , he still has two or three years left.
In some ways it's his greatest performance when his age, hostile crowd and opponent is factored in. It might be many years before Joshua is flattened and about stopped. He deserved to get to the cards but he never fought for that and hardly even clinched. Joshua was holding him more.
This is what a professional, disciplined and clean lifestyle can do, stretch your shelf life in professional sports. Klitschko literally lives boxing 24/7.
Lol, The old man did look good didn't he. Made all the old gents in the world proud. He got stopped but it took nothing away from his total performance. He was almost floating like a butterfly and stinging like bee. ( But not quite.)
Nice props post, except he did fight pretty dang fluid for most of his career. He had a crazy fight with Jennings, where the referee was urged by Pops Jenkins to penalized Wlad for holding, so Jennings knew right away to come in thru fire behind the shell, and Wlad wouldnt be allowed to use his size to smother, meanwhile, BY would be able to fire away at Wlads ribs and and back. Vs Pulev, you saw an opponent look to try to take Wlad out, and Wlad fought fire with fire and it was an all action fight, maybe Wlads finest since Manny took to his tutelage. VS Fury, I just think Wlad was completely distracted all camp long with his newborn daughter, and his wife having suicidal ideations and post pardom depression. So I think he figured he'd find a single R hand or left hook and the opening simply never came, and Wlad simply didnt have the proper urgency to find them. That mustve been the first time in Wlad career that I'd seen his opponent iniated more clinches than he did himself. But overall, yeah, Wlad looked focused and determined and simply ran into a puncher who had the heart to take shots to find the opening. Props to AJ for truly taking the torch. Thats how to beat the HWCotW right there.
This is why I am so disappointed in Fury. He has the tools and talent but totally lacks the discipline and dedication.
As a heavyweight myself who started in martial arts and picked up boxing 2 years ago I would kill to have Wlad coach me for a week or so.
