Couldn't have said it better, seeing it and not being able to let your hands go is the worst warning sign it's time to get out. Wlad is eat up with it. He had better retire, before something worse lay ahead.

I picked him to beat Ali and after last night I am more confident in that opinion than ever. Wlad was immense on fight night, don't dismiss him as "a 41 year old man" he was in fantastic condition and gave a great account of himself, almost pulling off the win (Joshua was 10-1 at one point in the in-play betting markets). Joshua answered a lot of questions last night in a positive fashion, surviving and getting off the canvas to take his foe to hell and back before finishing with an emphatic, devastating, flourish. Give the man the credit he deserves.

Don't be surprised if I steal that as an opening next time I'm wrong. Which will probably be this weekend.

I actually picked the right round, just the wrong boxer.

I agree. It did seem as if he was that 1 big shot from possibly finishing it. In round 7, I thought Wladimir had a good shot at controlling things the rest of the way. But Joshua stepped up big time. Such an awesome effort from both fighters.

    Very good assessment

Wlad put more into intent and effort into becoming assertive and aggressive , and that made him look very impressive as a 'take it to them' fighter , when compared to his previous style

However I do think age has affected his reflexes and ability to fire when necessary; with age his punches are more delayed now

To me this was clearly illustrated by the extreme amount of lead left hooks he threw and missed with- there were too many to count

His left hook definitely is a far cry from what it once was. He used to have more variety with it, and a lot more snap on it, regardless of he was throwing more of a long range hook, or whether it was that quick short crisp hook he used to frequently throw off the jab. Wlad's jab off the hook used to be a thing of beauty, and it's something he seemed to have gotten away from in recent years (although he always used it situationally, using it frequently against certain opponents, and never at all against others).

All the same, Klitschko is still a force (although I hope he retires). Not many people survive that right hand bomb from round 6. Joshua showed something special surviving that and persevering.

    Yes.

Now that I have watched the highlights again after it's all said and done, I think Wlad would be a legit threat if he were to take the rematch he is due

His ability to come back from that fifth round K down and turn the tide so fast was very impressive and out of character for him --and overall I think he on One maybe two more rounds thanJoshua did

I think he will take rematch , and I would like to see it, BUT I won't be betting anotr 500 on Wlad again this time, no. Lol

There was clues of it in the white fight,he looked gone after the early onslaught then looked fresh again after a couple of rounds.
Its a strange one but i think if he is more calculated in his attacks when he has his opponent hurt he can comfortably do 12 rounds and will be hard for anyone around today to beat.he proved his boxing skills are elite, which i think will set him apart from wilder and parker.
Wlad was the same,he proved he wasnt chinny the other night,he just gassed when he went for the kill

WTF are you going on about ??? Wlad threw everything he had in the 5th and 6th rounds. Aj took An absolute pounding in those rounds. How Aj CAME BACK from that was amazing.

You guys miss what you don't want to see and see only what you want. I have not seen Wlad be that aggressively going for a ko since the 1st Brewster fight.

Aj was the more durable and fresher fighter. We all know wlads the king of the power shots. Give credit where it's DUE. From mid 5th through the entire 6th Wlad unleashed everything he had and landed what I truly thought was too many

Both proved they're the top hw's... IDGAF fury has a B'S points win over Wlad in a fight he proved nothing except he can stay far enough away from wlad that neither attempt any true offense.

You might have to watch that fight again, maybe in SLOWMO because it's clear you missed more if the fight than you saw

Exactly.also wlad knows his body, which he learned from the brewster fight and acted on.he realised he cant continually unleash, which will be something joshua takes from this fight.
The likes of parker and wilder are better built to throw more and more often, but they wont have the skill to get close enough to do it.

An outstanding review which is extremely balanced, accurate and fair. I do wonder about the future for Wlad. Like you said, he showed some quality still at the top level. He could conceivably still mingle with the best fighters in the division.

As for AJ, he proved to be more savvy than many could have anticipated heading into the fight, and showed the quality of his chin and his heart to significant degrees (and his lack of stamina).

BTW, I felt AJ would win by late stoppage... just to rub it in (evil laugh).
