mcvey, You didn't respond to my request to back up your statements that Jeanette and Langford gave Johnson hard fights Johnson beat the sh*t out of Langford.

Again you utterly fail to post a detail that is relevant, how old was Langford at the time? Answer 20 yrs old, and atmost a MW. Of course to you that's a minor detail, not worth mentioning. All the big four fought each other multiple times and in their primes. Now you tell me who didnt fight any of the other members of the big four in their primes, why ole clutch n grab, that's who.

Don't you think it's common knowledge that Langford was young, no one including Clay Moyle has been able to say exactly how old he was, and around 160lbs? Its also common knowledge that he had more fights on his resume than Johnson and that Johnson at around 185lbs was over 20lbs below his best weight too.
I stated that Langford had the sh*t beaten out of him because KO King 123 said he gave Johnson a hard fight, he didn't! Johnson broke his nose, and floored him twice for what was described as long nine counts!
That is the relevance of my reply to him.
.You really can't be this stupid you just have to be trolling now!
On a side note after Johnson thrashed Ketchel it was felt on two counts that there would be no demand for a fight with Langford .
    1.He was too small.
    2. Two blacks would not draw.
And before you say this is incorrect I've just read the newspaper clippings so save your fingers!
One more minor detail ,none of them, not McVey,Jeannette ,or Langford met a prime Johnson either! Didn't that salient fact occur to you!:yaay

Haha This why I keep bringing up that Jennette was inexperienced, cos you constantly bring up Johnson. You post the above and fail again to bring up, how many fights Jennette had at that point. An esteemed studied personage of high standards as yourself should factor that in. Nobody said that he whipped Clutch n Grab, that he stood up and gave as good as he got, says more about Jennette then it does clutch n grab. Seven yrs ring experience, weight and height advantages should factor in. A studied person would know, Clutch n Grab had everything in his favor and that beating and dropping with 6 months experience was really a gimme for C&G.
So in reality Jennette was in there as another ko victim. You cant say C&G didnt try stopping Jennette. You really should be ashamed of yourself bringing this up over and over again. You ignore relevant information that would make someone think differently as in the C&G series.

According to the Boston Globe Johnson won, never disputed the result. However, it does mention Langford giving Johnson all kinds of problems including hurting him ad Johnson showing signs of worry and concern. Which matches exactly to Johnsons statements that he didn't fear Langford but he did fear his power. Johnson alo lost to Jeanette when he was jus a novice and said himself a few times that Jeanette was an issue.

    Johnson thrashed Langford.
"Two and a half years before the start of Johnson's legendary reign as World Heavyweight Champion, he met Sam Langford at the Lincoln Athletic Club in Chelsea, Massachusetts in defense of his "colored" portion of the heavyweight crown. Johnson, who had met the best heavyweight contenders (compared to the 156 lbs Langford, who had just recently started fighting heavyweights), dominated the bout and won by a lopsided fifteen-round decision. However, Langford's manager, Joe Woodman, told everyone who would listen that Langford floored the "Galveston Giant" with a right uppercut and gave him a tremendous battle. Woodman's account persisted for years, which offended Johnson greatly and prompted him to issue a series of vehement denials.

In an open letter to The Ring in 1934, Johnson wrote: “I have accounts of the fight from my dear old friend, Tad (legendary sports writer and cartoonist Tad Dorgan), which show how badly Sam Langford was whipped. Please note the account of our fifteen-round fight at Chelsea, Mass., which I am enclosing. The report shows that I gave poor Sam such a severe trimming that he had to find his way into a hospital to recuperate. The records of that fight prove that statement to be correct."

In 1945, Joe Waterman, who believed Johnson was the greatest of all the heavyweight champions, backed up Johnson's account. Waterman stated that he was at the fight and witnessed Johnson dish out a "terrible beating" to the smaller Langford.

In his 1958 book, 50 Years at Ringside, Nat Fleischer, founder of The Ring, produced the testimony of his father-in-law, Dad Phillips, who allegedly saw the fight.

Said Phillips: “Jack Johnson decisively defeated Sam Langford. He was complete master of the situation. Jack so far outclassed Langford that for a time, until he purposely eased up on his onslaughts, the fight was one-sided."

Fleischer once cornered Woodman and good-naturedly demanded the true version of events. According to Fleischer, this was Woodman’s response: “You’ve got me, Nat. Langford never dropped Johnson. But I was anxious to fix up another fight between the two and, knowing Jack’s pride, I invented the story of that knockdown to goad him into the ring against Sam again. Although it never happened, all the newspapermen believed it. They just never took the trouble to investigate. That knockdown was just a publicity gimmick."

Never said Johnson didn't win, never said it was disputed. But it definitely wasn't easy or without him being hurt in the bout and more than once. And the Boston Globe mentions just that.

I also have quotes from Johnson saying he feared Langfords power and that he wasn't comfortable fighting Jeanette in a long bout. Johnson is also known for lying to make himself look better, however I don't think he was lying when he said Langford didn't drop him. I think as the sources I had said, Langford lost without dispute but not without Johnson being hurt and worried bc Langford kept on coming back. So we do agree on some of it.

"Sam picked up the pace in the 6th rd , but Johnson drove Sam into the ropes. There he landed a hard uppercut to the jaw that sent Sam crashing to the boards for a count of nine.
Sam managed to struggle to his feet and attempted to clinch until he had regaine his senses, but Johnson was too strong for him He freed himself and dropped Sam for another count."
"By the end of the 7th it appeared Johnson was pitching a shut out., he would only need one more round to be assured of a victory on points should the contest go the distance. He was relatively unmarked and sat smiling during the intermissions, while Sam's corner worked on him furiously to prepare him for each coming round.
One of Sam's eyes had been closed by that time and his face evidenced the punishment he'd beentaking Theonly question now seemed to be whether Sam could go the distance."
"In the 8th Johnson moved easily around the ring as Sam began to slow.Sam tried to retreat but Johnson caught him with an overhead right on the mouth staggering him and kncking him back into the ropes.Johnson followed Sam into the ropes, raining a series of blows and ending with a hard left hook knocking Sam to the canvas .
The referee began to count and Jack stood waiting to hit Sam again should he rise. After what seemed to many in attendance a very slow count Sam rose at nine by grasping the rope and pulling himself upright.."

"At the end of the 12thrd Sam's nose was bleeding and his other eye was closing."

"In the 15th and final round Sam looked like he was running on fumes.
There was no disagreement over whether Johnson had won the fight.Various reports made it clear that the affair had been one sided."
"Johnson gave Langford a terrible beating." The Police Gazette
"I only ever took one real beating, that was from Jack Johnson and I take my hat off to him for it." SamLangford/
This is what you actually said and it simply isn't true.
"The fact that Johnson struggled, and lost to Jeannette when he was but a novice and still developing physically and the fact he had his hands full with McVey at the end of their series until McVey gassed and how Johnson was hurt badly more than once and showed signs of worry in his bout with Langford before he was physically and boxing wise, in his prime says it all."
I get it that you cant bring yourself to admit you are wrong there are few like that here, but please don't persist in this because it's total BULLSH*T.
Now, how's about you produce all these offers of big money for Johnson to defend his title against Langford,Jeannette, and McVey.

    Talk's cheap , but proof cut's it!

I have a quote from Johnson made in the 40's in which he said," Langford was the toughest little son of a b*tch that ever lived" And I'm very happy to believe it,but it doesn't mean their fight was in anyway competitive! There is absolutely no doubt Langford did not drop Johnson we have eye witness accounts and primary sourced newspaper reports proving he didn't!

I don't know why you guys in here are all emotional, I'm just stating what Ive found. Geez y'all are hostile in here, relax man haha. But I never said Langford dropped Johnson or that it was a disputed decision. I said it wasn't a cakewalk for Johnson and he got rocked and hurt during the fight, enough that he didn't wanna face Langford again, especially in his prime and more filled out. Johnson himself said it. And yes there was many people offers made with top money for Johnson to face The other men mentioned before. I also have an article where its said that Johnson didn't wanna face any legitimate contenders. I'm just going off the articles I have. I'm still getting use to this forum so bear with me lol. Can I post pics in here?

I'm not emotional or hostile, but if you make a statement I require you to support it with facts,in this instance you can't.
I can produce primary sourced reports that when challenged to put up a $5000 bond as evidence of good faith for a fight with Johnson , very common in those days, , neither Langford ,nor Joe Woodman his manager could do so.

I can show that Johnson agreed to fight Langford and McVey in a two fight deal in Australia for H D McIntosh only for McIntosh to withdraw the offer when Johnson jumped bail.
Likewise I can show that Johnson twice signed to defend his title against Jeannette in NY only to have the NY Commission veto both fights and threaten to ban any promoter who put them on. The underlined isn't supported by the facts and it won't be because it never happened if you still say it is, produce the proof, its that simple! I wish you well here but have your facts straight before making unsupported statements that you will get called on. Yes you can post pics .ATB.

Relevant Facts Mickey V leaves out-

-Langford was 20yrs old, Langford hadnt developed his "man strength", and wasnt in his prime physically
-Johnson was 28 in his prime physically
-Johnson had height and weight advantages
-What prominent "HW" had Langford before Johnson?
-Within one yr of fighting Johnson, Langford had been fighting such renowned HW's as Jack Blackburn, Young Peter Jackson, and of course a true HW Black Fitzsimmons.
-Johnson never fought him again or in Langfords prime.
