Yes wladmir was more aggressive and threw his hands more when hr was younger but he also had even worse defense, was more reckless and left his chin open. I thought the consensus was that he became a better boxer when he got older under stewart?

Wlad was stopped and dropped more times in his prime than any other lineal heavyweight champ if i recall (maybe patterson?). Brewster, sanders, purrity, Peter, these guys werent exactly godly A class fighters even at their best and i never see them on a top 10 hardest hitters list. You cant cherry pick his good qualities when he was younger and ignore his weaknesses. Remember, AJ knocked wlad down first so if this was the youger wlad theres a good chance hed ko him even sooner! You cant have it both ways.

Wlad is a late bloomer, he was at his best from his mid-thirties until now, he would never had a chance against
Anthony Joshua when he was 27 years old, AJ would have knocked him out in the 5th round.

I have seen nearly all of his fights and he was never better than in his fight with AJ, this is really special
considering that he is 41 years old but Wlad is an exception, he is still in tremendous shape and his experience
made him a lot better than he was with 27.

I don't think that a younger version of Wlad would have better chances against AJ or even the same chances, a
younger version would have been knocked out earlier.

Well I'm not saying that. It could've ended both ways. Both are extremely gifted and powerful HWs.
But if you want to pick the best Wlad, it's not young agressive Wlad pre-Stewart, it's Stewart version 30-35 years old Wlad in 2006-2011 when he already learned that tricks from Manny and was at his physical peak.

Wladimir was at his best in his early to mid thirties with Emanuel in his corner. THAT Wladimir would have beat Joshua imo.

When people are talking about a younger version of wlad...their not talking about that version of wlad but the one emmanual steward crafted. I think he actually lost one of the fights after steward took over might have been wlads second fight with him but after that steward basically changed him as a fighter. That version of wlad would have beat aj...the jab was more imposing. Wlad as a whole was more imposing...you kind of lose that with age. Dont get me wrong aj has the power to give himself a chance with anyone. But i dont think like most of wlads opponents he would have got into the fight. Old wlad very nearly done him. On the cards and by knockout. This wasnt a much much better version of wlad on saturday just someone that was giving more oppertunities by his opponent that say the fury fight.

Wlad was at his best at the age of 35 but he was not much better than his 41 year old version, he is not too far
    away from his prime.

In the year 2011 it would have been a 50-50 fight.

Yes I'm sure 35 year old Wlad would ended joshua the way he did Pulev. Joshua is not good and I don't see anything special in him

The main reason driving my belief that an earlier Wlad finishes the job old Wlad nearly did that is that old Klitschko's movement was still effective (as was the jab and straight right), despite both his hand and foot speed having dropped off.

The left hook, in particular, has deteriorated. Watch the finishing salvo vs Austin (and even vs Pulev, it was still a noticeably faster hook) and compare it to the version that Joshua never had much trouble ducking. It's clear thatit's not the same punch.

Still, Wlad looked significantly better than I thought he was going to, so Joshua deserves full credit for the win and the heart he displayed. While it may not have been prime Wlad, that version was still damn hard to beat- I still believe the version Joshua KO'd would've beaten any other active heavyweight in the division.

Prime for Wlad was early 30s, would have closed the show for sure. But he can win the rematch if it happens this year. Another year on the clock and I'd be less confident.

Boxing math doesnt work, just Because Corrie Sanders knocked Wlad out doesnt mean Joshua does the same.

Wlad 30-35ish would have put AJ away. No doubt of it.

He's slowed down some, even though he's in great condition. Some of those punches were missing by a hair.

That said, I think Joshua has yet to hit his stride properly. He's going to get better :deal:

So the wlad in his early-mid 30's with stewart is what people consider his absolute "peak"? That versions is better than both the young wlad in the entire decade of his 20's and the Wlad in his late 30's-early 40's???

I cant think of any HW boxer in history other than maybe jersey joe walcott where this happened. This suggests either:

-wlad in all of his 20's was trash

-and/or wlad in his early 30's (peak) had incredibly trash competion

-or, wlad had a very short peak and then rapidly declined (has definitely happened many times before).

^Woudnt it be more reasonable to assume that he hasnt rapidly declined and isnt way worse than his "peak" incarnation? Maybe Aj is just...better??? Even if slightly?

Boxers who have a "very short peak" DONT have 20+ title defenses. Boxers who "age like wine and improve with age" DONT just sudenly look horrible over night like some people are suggesting. Look at Bhop, Holyfield, Holmes, Mayweather, etc. None of them just suddenly looked horrible overnight (as long as they take care of their bodies, wlad doesnt party or fight injured).

It begs the question how he managed to survive this long and rival Holmes era?

There's a seven-year window in Wlad's career within which I believe he would have beaten the AJ who fought on Saturday night. That's not a window, it's a huge patio door. So yeah, he would have more than likely beaten him when he was younger. And when he was not so young. Just not when he was green, or as was the case, when he was old...

Vlad was never the same after Emanuel Steward died. If Steward had been in Vlad's corner, even at 41, Vlad would have stopped Joshua, but Banks is not a good trainer. I miss the Vlad Steward was training, but don't sell Vlad short, that was a fantastic fight, can't wait to see the rematch...............Vlad needs to throw body punches, not just go to the head.............

Look at the stupid simpletons trying to say Wlad is prime at 41 years of age. What happens to your body and physical performance when it gets older? Do I really need to tell you?
