So i understand i will obviously be a bit slower with added weight but i want to bulk just to look better, but do not want to affect my boxing a lot while doing this. I dont want to bulk a lot, probably about 5-10 pounds or so and then cut to look more lean. I am 135lbs. My idea is to not use weights except kettlebells and some weight to do things like squats so i would like to be bigger by using calisthenics essentially. How can i do this without affecting my boxing and on days that i am boxing do i eat more or the same as other days. I also train boxing about 3-4 days a week. I appreciate all help
Adding 10lbs of muscle won't make you slower as long as you train correctly. If you're training for mass, your performance will suffer to a degree. The smarter way would be to slowly increase your calories until you're gaining slowly and stop when you're happy. The old bulk up, cut routine is a terrible way to go about things, particularly for athletes. Why? Weights will be far more effective. Your boxing performance will suffer but what do you expect? The additional training WILL affect your boxing, simple as. Building muscle is not as easy as people like to believe. You should generally eat more on training days, whether that's boxing, weight training, cardio etc.
Appreciate it man, really helpful and i guess im a little too worried about losing my extra speed and power advantages i got at this weight and at my age i've been told bulking is no good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If you are a teenager then that is the absolute best time in your life to bulk. Your hormones are at their highest.
Losing your speed due to gaining 10lbs? Mate, the fastest man on earth, Usain Bolt, is 6'5" and 207lbs. Think about that.
