The only way GGG beats Canelo is a KO.

I am a fan of both fighters, though not so much of an Oscar fan when it comes to his efforts as a promoter.

(As I think about this, I am not a fan of most promoters.)

This is a good matchup. Both fighters are excellent at what they specifically do and can negate the other's best offensive efforts to some degree. Regardless of that, I believe they both will score somewhat readily in the fight with Golovkin hurting, but not likely stopping Canelo- and Canelo landing higher numbers, but not likely hurting Golovkin.

In saying that, I believe this likely leads to Canelo getting a split or majority decision based on the fact that it's easier to see a blow land than it is to see cracked ribs or internal bleeding. I say split or majority decision because I believe we will see at least one unfortunate discrepancy in the scoring of what should be a competitive- and possibly hard-to-score- fight. Oh, something like 115-113, 113-115, 119-109... GBP wins.

Unfortunately- I believe many of us expect questionable scoring, as well as an unending parade of A-Side / B-Side BS.

Canelo probably cannot stop Golovkin.

Golovkin probably could stop Canelo, but IMO it's unlikely.

Yes, I agree that a KO is probably what Golovkin should look for in this fight if he wants to be considered the best MW. But I keep in mind what some others have alluded to here: A victory to the promoters is probably a successful trilogy- even if their guy only wins one, and while Golovkin has stated his desire- all along- to unify the MW titles, I am not sure he will really get that chance once he starts fighting Canelo.

I am looking forward to the fight if it happens. Likewise, I would enjoy seeing each fighter face a few others in their weight class, as well.

 

I dont see Canelo lasting 12 rounds. I think he gets stopped or his corner throws in the towel when he starts taking too much punishment. Canelo has never faced anything like GGG while GGG just came off a fight against Jacobs who punches harder than canelo, is as skilled, as fast and bigger. I see GGG/Canelo playing out similar to GGG/Lemieux. GGG will be disciplined and fight a great technical fight even against a more superior skilled fighter than a Lemieux.

He can get a decision by leaving no doubt in the rounds.

 

If the fight goes the distance and is remotely competitive there`s just no way GGG will get the decision, just like Marquez couldn't get the decision in Pacquiao II and III in spite of clearly winning both fights (specially the 3rd one, which could have been scored 12-0 for him)

In Vegas GGG will have to Ko him 3 times & STILL lose a SD & you know it

 

If Canelo wins a disputed decision they'll be a rematch, if GGG clubs him to death? no chance. That's why if it goes to a decision Canelo with get the nod he just has to stay on his feet

 

Without sounding like a huge GGG fan, nobody will stop GGG. I'd be surprised if he does actually go down before he retires

 

Would of could have.. But he didn't win. Thank goodness boxing has 3 judges. CJ Ross got suspended, and rightfully so.

As far as Mayweather dominating the 12 rds is a myth. He thoroughly outboxed Canelo, but it was hardly a 12 round sweep.

Everybody said this same stuff about Jacobs, and that didn't work out either. And it's not what Canelo hadn't faced, it's what GGG hasn't faced which is a red headed savage!!

 

Canelo doesn't pose the same kinds of problems that Jacobs did. Power, reach, size etc.
How's Canelo going to replicate the gameplan that caused GGG problems? He doesn't have the same skill or physical attributes.

 

They wern't problems going into that fight though, because he was supposed to get left on a stretcher. Now after the fight people want to give Jacobs credit.

And when you say he doesn't have the same skills what do you mean? To me Jacobs is a little wide with his shots, a little awkward the way he throws them, he doesn't really slip punches effectively, but he does have speed and good footwork.

Canelo throws his shots perfectly the way they're supposed to be thrown, can slip punches better than Jacobs, throws better , more fluent combinations than Jacobs, can counter punch better than Jacobs, and fight better on the inside than Jacobs imo. Those are skills that are going to trouble GGG.
