Sergio Martinez is retired and Canelo just recently entered his prime in the Cotto fight Nov. 2015.

At the rate Canelo is going, he will easily surpass Martinez.

This September, if Canelo beats Golovkin, he will undeniably be greater than Martinez and he's just getting started.

26 year old canelo beats a 26 year old martinez. lets see how the rest of canelos career plays out before we compare him with martinez.

I'm a huge Martinez fan and think stylewise at his best he'd beat the current crop at 160 but on paper if you're looking at accomplishments Canelo is the more proven fighter, if he beats Golovkin in dominate fashion in Sept the gap will be even wider.

I think a prime Martinez is better. Not a whole lot, but enough.

Williams and Pavlik are better than any win on Canelo's resume. The Cotto win is just below as he was smaller and Canelo was less dominant against him. The Golovkin would would probably set him ahead though.

Alvarez is the kinda guy who matured early...he will be **** by 30...mark my words. But I'd still favor him over Martinez.

Canelo is 27 and seems to still be getting better with every fight. His great defense will also allow him to have a longer career than most. I say Canelo can compete at the highest levels for another 3-5 years and be relevant well into his mid 30s.

he is going to need that defense against golovkin. i feel canelos power is underrated, chavez has an iron chin and is naturally much bigger than canelo. triple g is naturally bigger than canelo but not by much. canelos neck is as thick as a pitbulls, i think that along with his defense will help but i'm worried about canelos foot work. if canelo stands in the pocket eventually he will get rocked. i do not think canelo can ko triple g but i do think he can outbox him to a decision barring a knockdown.

i still have to give triple g the advantage 60/40 canelo is a live underdog and triple g could be fading while canelo could be peaking in september.

I agree, obviously the knee did him in and at his peak, Maravilla was a beast, but by the Murray fight, he was on the decline. Before his knee gave out, his speed and timing was off big time.

You know he was coming off a long layoff from the knee he blew out against chavez? He was rusty and the knee never healed correctly and if im not mistaking he injured his other knee in that fight but dont hold me to that. Im 100% sure though that the knee was not good going into that fight.

Whoa, I did not know his knee problem was that far back since the Chavez fight. He didn't seem to have any problems with movement against Jr at all.
