Canelo would have to be one of the softest puncher's that GGG would have faced and he would have to be better than floyd to avoid being hit. If GGG really is slowing down then he might survive but I just can't see how he gets GGG's respect. He only has a 64 percent ko ratio at lighter weights so if he had been fighting Middleweights that would be even lower.
Still having too hard a time making pick. Once I see Spence handle brook I'll be able to turn my attention over. One massive fight at a time, for me anyway Canelo speed will cause some issues , but so will ggg reach with his killer jab. Setting everything else up. This is a far tougher pick than Spence brook and the obvious kov ward which will shock many fans by proving to be utter mismatch
My two cents Canelo would never loose a decision on the West Coast the reasoning Oscar is paying for the show my heart say GGG my head Canelo. GGG needs a knock out, good chance this fight goes 12.
Agreed it's opinion, but Canelo didn't make Chavez look slow,,,,he was slow! Canelo will have to be in range to use his hand speed. One thing I believe that is an unknown is when does GGG age start to affect him? He's going on 36 , the oldest man to win the middleweight title was Duran at a couple months shy of his 38 birthday. Sugar Ray Robinson couldn't regain the title at 37 so it could be a factor. If Canelo can use his speed and avoid being clobbered it's possible GGG could have a hard time pulling the trigger as happens to aging fighters. But I still se Canelo as a Jr. Mid.,,,, I sure will watch though!!!
I just dont see Canelo being able to get GGG's respect and keep him off. If GGG is able to use his better footwork and get Canelo to the ropes, Canelo will take major damage. That being said, if it does go the distance we already have 3 CJ Ross cards filled out.
This is a great match up. You can look at the Canelo Chavez fight and say that because Canelo was unable to put away Chavez that GGG will just walk through Canelo's punches. GGG is the strongest and hardest hitting fighter in the division and Canelo has not fought anything like him. The first time Canelo tastes GGG's power it may feel like he was hit by an anvil. But you can also look at the success Brooks and Jacobs had against GGG and say that Canelo will win because he's faster and more skilled than either of these fighters. He's been a natural middle weight for some time, is the best counter puncher that GGG has faced and also the most aggressive body puncher. Canelo will most likely hit GGG more than any other fighter has in the past and, like Kovalev, GGG may not like the body shots which will wear him out in the later rounds. If Canelo keeps his head (he has a temper) and fights the right fight I see him winning by late round stoppage.
I'm not confident enough to make an official pick yet, but first impressions I'd pick Canelo to win. I don't think Canelo is as good as Golovkin, but styles make fights.
