    Loses how?

If Canelo slips and slides and outworks him and / or stops him that's one thing, and not very good for GGG.

If GGG beats the ginger out of Canelo the whole fight and gets stiffed on the cards, that's another thing.

Losing to a Ginger is the most humiliating kind of loss there is. Dropping a razor-close SD to a Ginger is worse than getting sparked out cold in 30 seconds by a 55 year old 3-117-2 (0KOs) bum in front of your home fans.

if Alvarez loses he will have lost to the biggest puncher he's ever faced, and the best boxer while dominating largely sub par opposition at Canelo weight. He's one of best marketed fighters of our time but would he stand in there with Hagler, Hearns at el? Not a chance. How would he do against Bhop, Pavlik and prime Taylor. Id make him competitive but could see Bhop and Pavlik getting the W.. Weight draining a guy and winning doesnt mean all the much.

I think GGG will win, if he loses but comes back to beats another elite level fighter there is time to get to ATG status at the minute he's a world class fighter of this generation. His problem is while he could try and fight the like of De Gale, etc there arent that many maque names to build his rep on. Same for Alvarez really though he's content to fight guys with a name on his own terms to ensure a win.

Well he'll be exactly what he is.

Someone who has looked like a monster but came unstuck when he faced his best opponent.

In terms of greatness it's hard gauging it until we know how great Canelo is.

If Canelo becomes a great MW champion then a loss won't be a bad thing, he'd have just lost to a better man.

If Canelo becomes inconsistent afterwards and say loses to Jacobs, then Golovkin takes a bigger hit.

I expect Golovkin to knock Canelo out, unify with Saunders, rematch Jacobs and go down in history as one of the best MW fighters in recorded history.

    GGG stock would drop significantly.

Some think Canelo is a lesser fighter that he was.

I wouldn't be too concerned. Canelo is slow, has poor footwork and little power at 160. His much talked about skills looked mediocre against even Liam Smith. His stamina has always been poor. GGG will break him down and might even spark him outright. Then the chorus of GGG haters will tell us Canelo is too small for 160.

What people don't realize is that GGG has more to lose than Canelo. Let me break it down for both fighters.

    GGG:
Wins: Will get credit for winning his biggest fight up to date but people will say he was the bigger fighter and should have won it. In other words, it was expected of him.
Loses: Stock will drop unless he wins against a bigger opponent (Andrew Ward), will be seen as great and potential HOF. PPV sales will drop even more.

    Canelo:
Wins: Will be seen as #1 PPV, will gain more fans and become a household name. Will start making FMJ money.
Loses: People will criticize but will give him a pass since he went up in weight and loss to the best MW champion. Same scenario after loosing to FMJ.

What about Canelo? Will he become an ATG if he wins?

He's taking on the bigger and more dangerous man. GGG should be the clear favourite to win.

If the win makes GGG an ATG , then it must do the same for Canelo.

Most definitely, beating the best MW of today should get him closer to ATG.

Well it's k not sure nor do I even wanna think it cause we know one that no for sure and that's if he loses even with all those titles he hasn't got chance of a rematch.

This is why Canelo has is fair share of hate and page upon page of memes,I'm telling you even SOB has nothing on this man in the Diva stakes

Canelo has to be considered a great if he beats Golovkin,I don't see it happening myself but he will get some credit from most quarters if wins

The people that get in and don't deserve it on resume achieved fame a different way. Gatti doesn't have a HOF resume but his wars with Ward made him a legend in the sport.

Linares has dominated lightweight but is he getting into the HOF? No, because it's a weak era for the division. Same with GGG's Middleweight reign.

You can't be rewarded for hypothetical fighters that didn't duck you. Sturm, Zbik, and little Cotto are not pushing his resume over the edge to HOF level.
