I usually root for Michigan fighters, and Andre was no exception. What is is exceptional in that he's made me ashamed to admit it. Can't believe I used to back this clown. GTFO of boxing and give the tv date to a hungry figher who deserves the chance.
Dirrell milks it, but I don't have a huge problem with him for some reason. Every time this **** happens he's been legitimately hit with illegal punches. I thought he milked a soft punch in the AA fight. Here he got knocked down hard. I have a problem with that because if a fighter continues after that, you might be buzzed still and giving your opponent a BS advantage. Is 5 minutes enough to recover? What if there was a concussion or something? I might be reaching but w/e. At least Dirrell isn't Hopkins, who fakes illegal shots and milks them and is dirty as hell himself.
Naw he wasn't faking the AA knockout, I believe he was really out cold for a bit in that fight. Such a shame how talented he was. I remember him outboxing Froch and being very impressed.
if i had a dollar for every time i had said that exact phrase. past six months, inexplicable judges' scoring and refs who look they came from the WWE, make me want to puke...then GGG vs Canelo is announced and all is forgiven
That didn't warrant a DQ. It wasn't intentional. Dirrell got caught with a left hook that hurt him just before the bell, and Uzcategui finished the combo a split second later when the bell rang. It was at the heat of the moment and it wasn't done with malicious intent. It could been a KO, but Dirrell got a lucky break.
The first punch is the one that hurt Dirrell, the last one was a fraction of a second after the bell, but it was in motion before during the combination, the ref was a damned crook, appears to tell Dirrell to stay down so he can call it a disqualification....................when Dirrell lost to Froch, all he did was complain, fall down on the canvas, hold, etc., I also think his chin is not very good...............
The 2nd punch was trown when the bell sounded, and so it's up to the referee's discretion to either award it as a KO, or count it as unintentional after the bell with up to 5 minutes recovery time. If he can't recover after 5, the result should be a NC. Problem is, the referee in this case was clearly rooting for Dirrell to win, and called a bogus DQ, as it having been intentional or KO by foul.
Listen carefully to the referee, he says 5 SECONDS, stop punching at the bell...then the bell rings immediately...!!! A referee should never guess the time left in a round, once the 10 Second clapper is sounded the ref should then says 10 seconds stop at the bell, but not a few seconds afterwards...!!! Did Uzcategui think there was more than a second or two remaining as he was throwing the punches...??? Maybe, maybe not; but the referee messed up...!!!
Dirrell was hurt several times in this fight. I think he was on his way out eventually. 13 months of inactivity definitely didn't help him either
