I'm in the mood... 1 Anthony Joshua 19-0-0 (19) ENG 1 2 Wladimir Klitschko 64-5-0 (53) UKR 2 3 Luis Ortiz 27-0-0 (23) CUB 3 4 Deontay Wilder 38-0-0 (37) USA 4 5 Joseph Parker 23-0-0 (18) NZ 5 6 Kubrat Pulev 25-1-0 (13) BUL 6 7 Carlos Takam 34-3-1 (26) CMR 7 8 Andy Ruiz 29-1-0 (19) USA 8 9 Christian Hammer 22-4-0 (12) ROM 9 10 Dillian Whyte
He beats Dillian Whyte, Christian Hammer, Pulev, Ruiz, and maybe Parker. He blitzes all of these guys too. He gets knocked out late in the fight against the rest of them.
Firpo at the time of the Dempsey fight, I don't think he beats any of them...Not a knock...and no agenda. Just an opinion. Dempsey would do damage though if he were here today...if that's what you're asking.
He could get into a shootout with wilder or klitschko and maybe just maybe score a ko. Wilder looks ripe for a big overhand right to send him flying. Klitschko s at that vulnerable stage now where the reflex s slow down and your caught more and more, so perhaps Firpo clatters one on him and the old legs betray him?
Firpo was a raw, strong handful. By today's standards Firpo was not that green or inexperienced. He was 25-2 when he challenged Dempsey. Don't forget, Firpo was doing 15 rounds after 5 fights or so. And huge crowds came to his fights. For a foreign boxer in America 87,000 fans came to watch him for non title fights. He was knocking guys dead. And the fans kept coming. I think Firpo beats a lot of the contenders today. Luis Ortiz doesn't look much use since he failed a drugs test. Are Wilder and Joshua more experienced than Firpo? He beats pulev. I think firpo would give Joshua a real scare but I would expect AJ and Wlad to beat him. Firpo would be live though!
Firpo was pretty crude. His main attribute back in the day, his physicality, doesn't count for nearly as much today. He'd need somebody with a dodgy chin that was easy to land on. Wilder, in other words.
In his entire career Firpo faced a whopping 11 opponents with winning records. He went 6-5 among those. If you can watch what Firpo does in the ring and call it "boxing", I must assume you have allowed the broadest definition of that word.
I think that McGrain intentionally misspelled Luis to get our attention. It worked. Although the most fascinating thing is how low people are on Wilder. He's not a heavyweight Tommy Hearns or a 6'7" Joe Louis but he can fight a little. Honestly I haven't seen half those guys fight. I have no clue how good parker or Whyte are; if they aren't a match for Firpo then we need some new blood. He's probably the worst guy Dempsey defended against with the possible exception of Carpientier who was fine just undersized. He Bert cooper'd Dempsey sure but he was also dropped 9 times in less than six minutes and that includes all the time Dempsey was trying to kick Grantland Rice or whoever in the head. I forgot what I was writing about.
