Crawford doesn't need to move up 1 lb, not at all. He has so much left to do at 140.

Indongo, Paquiao at a catch-weight Garcia back at 140, , then move up. I don't think Thurman or Brook/Spence are PPV, so what's the hurry?

 

Crawford can beat anyone on 147 especially on the aging Manny Pacquiao. No reason he cannot move up.

 

After Indongo, who is unknown, he will have to move up to get the big fights..................Pac at 140? Doubt it will happen............

 

Totally agree there's pure good fights for him by my reckoning,no rush to move up unless he wants a one off fight at that weight.

 

I think the map is layed out for him to 147. Become updisputed with Indongo. Then try like hell to get PAC and his WW belt. Talk about introducing yourself to the Welters. Once he gets Pac's strap he has as many big fights as he wants at 47. Thurman, Spence, Porter, Brook, Kahn, Garcia all would bring eyeballs. Its almost endless compared to 40. Plus WW is one of the glamour divisions. Probably one of the few causal fans know. And Bud seems comfortable a 40 obviously but he looks sickly to me at 40. I think 47 would be almost natural for him. He is taller and would hold it nicely.

What is left for him at 40 after he is undisputed? Big money fights would be Lomachenko, Mikey, Broner, Tank. Loma would have to jump 2 classes. Broner he would be better off fighting at 47 (he isn't as good there). Tank would have to jump 2 as well and no way Floyd puts him in with Bud. Mikey could be worth it if he comes off beating Broner but why wait when all the names I listed at WW are waiting. Bud is in his 30s now. Time is a ticking.

 

Mikey is a decent name but that's about it. I'd like him to unify, get the Mikey fight, then move up to 147. The notion that he can stay at 140 forever is not realistic. Crawford doesn't have to be money hungry to want to move up. Most of the greats in history moved up. Crawford wants bigger pay days, bigger stages, more exposure, and his name near or at the top of the pound for pound list. 140 is not going to give that to him because he's already basically cleaned it out.

 

It would be cool to see him fight Indongo and become the first guy since Hopkins to fully unify. But after that I think there would be a serious lack of challenge or interest for him at 140. Maybe Mikey moves up and that would be a good fight but personally I think it's more likely he waits at 135 for Linares and then the Lomachenko super fight.

I don't want to see Crawford at 147 because I want to see him lose. I think he would be the best fighter in that division if he does move up. But I want to see him challenged and in decent, close fights, and after seeing him absolutely clown on Diaz I don't see who at 140 is going to give him that.

I don't see a single name in the ones you listed of junior welter fighters that are even close to Bud's level. Postol is the closest and we already saw how that went; a one sided, awful to watch domination.

 

I agree that he doesn't need to move up.
Indongo for unification, Pacquiao, Mikey Garcia (who is fighting Broner), Broner/Lipinets/Linares.
He's 29 years old. He can move up in 2 years when he becomes just far too drained to even make the weight and is around 31/32 - have a few fights at 147 and call it a day.
By that time, Spence and Brook will probably move up to 154 where they belong. Porter will have a couple more losses and will maybe move up or retire.
Thurman will be at 147. A new wave of welterweights will be at 147 who are very good but obviously unproven.

 

Finally something I agree on with MVC.
He has the chance to become (one of) the first undisputed champions in any division since Zeus knows how long. Which in today's boxing landscape is extremely hard to do with all the politics, marinating and ducking preventing that from happening.

But once he has unified (if he can), and cleaned out the not so strong division, he can always move up later on. He certainly is big enough for 147.

 

Sorry but there is no depth at 140 after Indongo there is no one left to fight, you have given GGG crap for staying in a un-competitive/weak division why should Crawford get a pass but GGG doesn't.

If he wants any sort of legacy he has to have the legacy fights and they are all (bar maybe PAc if he is willing to fight at 140) at 147.

You can't pick and choose which fighters you give a pass to and which you give crap to it just shows you up as a hypocrite.

 

after seeing Crawford last weekend and rances also. there is no need for that fight. rances isn't even in his league. and this is coming from a guy whos a rances fan. I thought diaz could pull off a upset but I was wrong there is no one at 140 who can trouble Crawford really. Garcia maybe but we havn't seen him at 140 yet.. as for 147. I would love to see porter vs Crawford to see how Crawford handles porters pressure for 12 pounds.

 

I agree and disagree. If he can make 140 just fine, which I'm sure he's not killing himself, then go for it. Fight Indongo, Mikey if he comes up, then move up by mid/end of 2018.

 

He should stay at 140 because he's gonna find his physical
and skill advantages diminished at 147.

 

Nah he has to move up unless Garcia moves up. That's the only fight I'd want to see at 140 after Indongo.
