If Cotto clearly beats Kamegai, it will be his 2nd best win since 2009.

    That makes no sense.

The reason that Cotto was a underdog vs both of those was because people thought they would have use of both legs or wouldn't be weight drained.

I personally bet on Cotto for Martinez fight because I thought something was fishy when they showed his training routine and talked about how "some doctors said he'd never walk again". That to me said that he could have a really bad knee and was only fighting Cotto to cash out.

How are fighters like shot Mayorga, One eyed shot Margarito and Delvin Rodriguez the highest level of opposition in the sport?

People rip on Floyd for who he has faced, but his opposition is much better than Cotto's.

It makes sense in that Cotto performed to near perfection. Better to what most expected.
But i do agree on the Martinez part. I figured beforehand and to this day believe that Martinez maybe spent 6 months out of the last 2 years of his career on actual boxing training. Not talking about fitness but boxing itself.

You're both right. I can't ever remember people claiming Cotto was any kind of ATG. People like him because he always came to fight and there was nearly always excitement because he does/did not possess an iron chin. Dude has amassed a resume filled with HoFers and at least 1 ATG (2 if you count Pacquiao and we'll have to see where Canelo ends up so maybe 3). He fought everybody. I think the OP just hates him and decided to write a book around a crappy straw man argument.

Actually the Danni Geales match was tainted as well, it was at a 157 catchweight, Geale hasn't made 157 since 2007. He was tettering on catatonia at the weight in, he looked on the verge of keeling over at any moment, I think I saw his eyes roll back in his head once.

Yeah I forgot about that. So I guess he really doesn't have almost any quality wins. I can't think of one guy that high on the food chain who had done so little.

I don't see what Floyd has to do with this thread.

You're misunderstanding my post. I didn't say he only fights the highest level of opposition, I said he consistently does. I can find a couple of examples of less than stellar opposition in anyone's resume throughout history.

Cotto has some great wins that make Him a hall of famer He tarnish His legacy a little bit since moving up in weight at 160. Martinez was a very clear favorite to win, and in this size 90 percent picked Sergio to win I even remeber people saying that even a injured Martinez would be to good for Cotto, injured Sergio was coming of a close somewhat controversial win over prime bigger undefeated Murray. So thats makes Him very capable of beating a supposed shot small welter in Cotto. So for me that's a huge win, He was giving hell to a young bigger prime Canelo. At welter a bloody without a trainer Cotto manage to beat a Prime Clottey. He have great wins over Martinez, clottey, Mosley, Judah, Margacheato, Paulie, Quintana, Ndou, Bailey, Corley, Geale and unbeaten Foreman sadly He got injured. He have solid not great wins over past Mayorga, Maussa, Pinto and gold medal winner Abdullaev. thats are credential to be hall of famer.

Cotto is great. Lacked discipline a couple times... Not the best habits outside of the ring either.... The thing with Miguel Cotto and where he earned my respect in the past is that he took on the best and he was ruthless in the ring so hungry and explosive.. He started to change after he beat Mosley.. Became more comfortable with his boxing.. Started to fight differently and the changing trainers thing was horrible.. Specially for the Pac fight to this day I still cant believe he chose Joe Santiago to train him for that fight.. But whatever point is he started dissapointing with the catchweights... I mean the Trout loss was an embarrasment... He shouldve never lost that fight and it was obvious he was not well trained... Then the catchweights.. Martinez was injured, Daniel Geale was shot and drained... Delvin Rodriguez fight was a joke but understandably a tune up... Other than that I think main issue here is, he kinda reminds me of Oscar a little bit.. The kind of fighter that would always step up to the plate but lost every one of his most important fights.. Mosley being the exception and Judah which was his welcome party.. But if you think about it.. Lost to Pac Man, Mayweather, Trout, Margarito loaded or not well never know... And Canelo... So all the meaningful fights hes lost...I really dont count the Sergio win an elite win because of the catchweight and it was obvious Martinez was not the same fighter... Hes knee was bad and Martinez got old overnight after the Murray fight.. Either way.. Im a proud puerto rican and have a lot of respect for what hes done for the sport and for all the entertaining fights he gave us.. I do think its time to hang them up.. I would fight the guy his fighting now and then retire mainly if he wins.. He defintely deserves to retire happy.

I give him credit for everything in BOLD. Martinez, Margarito and Mayorga were either shot and or injured. Geale was drained down to 157.

So are you saying that someone being savagely headbutted in the chin right before a patented left hook lands (WHICH CLEARLY HAPPENED), wouldn't be affected? What are you insane?

I'd rather this thing landed on my head from that distance than eat a butt from Melon Head Miguel's huge noggin.
