I thought his defence was decent. He realised he had to step it up because he was down on the cards and so left his chin out a few times. But he didn't take too many heavy shots. One or two only. His style is going to be hard to beat at 147.

Did Spence not cause the eye injury? I consider breaking someone's eye socket ****ing them up, whether rounds scored were even or not.

Spence showed a lot of chin, heart and guts for all the UK haters out there. Give the man his props.

I was disappointed that Brook quit. Both guys were too gassed, and it seemed like somebody was getting dropped as soon as the first bomb landed flush.

The boxing powers must have big things planned for Spence. Was definitely surprised at the cards. I didn't think Spence would get a fair shake, let alone be giving those rounds where he was repeatedly getting his head snapped back, but then when you add the fact that the punch stats only had Brook landing 14 jabs(CompuBox esque type ****), and the UK ref let Spence repeatedly mix in hard low blows with his body attack, you can kinda guess that Brook was gonna need a KO to win. I thought Spence may have pulled a little ahead in the last couple rounds, but was surprised the judges all had him up.

Think Brook pre Golovkin would've won that in convincing style (much like Groves getting Cobra'd)

Wasn't impressed by Spence at all, throws a decent body punch, good hand speed and he was good at spoiling on the inside but he looked wild and clumsy at times, off balance quite often. Fair play to him for coming on strong in the second half of the fight but I can't see him being a major force in the division.

Time for Kell to move up looked totally drained from the 7th round onwards and that eye is a real worry but he showed in the first half of the fight he's still one of the most skilled operators out there.

The most incredible thing for me about Spence now being the champ (and quite arguably 'the man' in the sport's longtime glamor division, although I still think he needs Thurman on his coup-stick in order to quell any doubts) is that until literally 13½ months ago his résumé was utter trash. I mean, it was okay (even pretty good) for an unbeaten prospect on the rise but as of mid-April last year Spence had not fought anyone to suggest he was ready for prime time. All of a sudden, then, like dominoes, lined up and toppled over, you have Algieri, Bundu and Brook. All stopped. That's...wow. Rattling off three scalps like that when your previous experience was capped off by the likes of Ronald Cruz and CVH...talk about shifting into high gear (from practically neutral), on a cliff-side road, and handling the curves like a Jason Statham character.

    It happened, but wasn't fight-altering.

I agree.....He was getting hyped from the start but the kid is ALL talent. Man he unleashed some 1&2's like nobody's business tonight. His body work was flawless, at times I thought a little low TBH, and his chin was checked and showed no cracks IMO.
I think we have a bright star for 147. It's a shame others don't step up like he has in the sport

He will be very hard to beat for sure, he is open though a lot of the time and that will encourage his next opponent whoever that is. Who would he fight next?

Groves v DeGale in a unification followed by the winner fighting a unification v Smith [as I see him beating Dirrell]

Thanks IB as I thought I was alone on that one. Yeah he simply broke Special K down round after round. Epic fight

Normally there is a progression. In this case it was feasting on stiffs and then suddenly barreling through a couple of world class welterweights and then clearly besting a claimant to "best in the world" in the division. No middle ground, just...zoom.

He could have skipped Lo Greco and van Heerden and Barrera and been no worse off. Those guys did nothing to prepare him for his 13 month run he's on. He's just that good in the pros outta the gate.
