Spence just beat down Brook. Watched it again. After the 6th, it was pretty one sided. From the 9th on it got sad for Brook. The narrative today: Brook was damaged goods from GGG, was drained, etc. Spence fans claim Brook was in excellent shape and Spence gets full credit. GK BOXs view: Spence did an excellent job fighting on the big stage in his opponents backyard in his first BIG FIGHT. Brook did loads of holding and mailing witn not a peep from the ref. It was competitive the first 6. I scored it 4-2 Brook. Then Spence won 7-11 with 2 KDs and then TKO. What if Brook fought Vargas instead of GGG. 2 things we can be sure of. 1- reduced weight strain 2- likely no broken oribital bone I still think that Spence was always too much for Brook. But I believe that Brook would last the full 12. Spence fought a Brook that was 90-85 percent of his full potential. It's not Spence fault that Brook took the reckless risk to fight the baddest middleweight of the last decade.
Probably about right. Think brook was struggling at the weight even before ggg. But even then a fully peak brook would have done well to last the 12 with spence. Actually said on here before the fight that spence depletes guys. Because he often lands with 3,s and 4,s he depletes them quickly. Even the guys that lasted 5 rounds...8 rounds etc. They we,re rendered pretty much ineffective from early because he drains you with the bodyshots and the 3,s and 4,s. The thing that didnt help is the combinations we,re pretty much kryptonite for kells style. You ll struggle to outbox kell. But you will beat him by throwing punches in numbers. Porter failed but he was a bit too predictable. Was a close fight anyway. But spence was too accurate. Too young and too busy. I can see spence being a hard man to beat at 147 for anyone. Scales will probably beat him first find himself in brooks shoes in terms of the weight before long imo.
No. Spence was the better fighter on the day, so this is what happens when Spence fights Brook. Heaps of people had their hopes on Brook, and underestimated Spence and don't want to swallow a tough pill. Spence proved he belongs at the top against another fighter who has ALSO proved himself to belong at the top. It was yet another great fight in modern boxing, don't ruin it by living in denial about the outcome.
You didn't read my post very well. The part where I said "I believe Spence was always too much for Brook" ??
As soon as Kell eye is injured he falls apart. Minis the injury he's 5o/50 all the way. He can match Spence in every department. But it doesn't work like that. The results are what matter not the small individual factors. Spence prob has limiting factors too
Good post and i also had it 4-2 Brook after 6 so we`re in agreement there. What i dont agree with is blaming the GGG beating or the weight thing on why he lost. It seemed to me that all the body work Spence did for the first 6 rounds started to catch up to brook who did an absolutely TERRIBLE job on the inside when the two were clinched and even as Spence came in he would bang some good body shots on Brook. I think that more than anything else is what spelled doom for Brook. Was the GGG beating or the weight cut a part of it? Possibly. I dont think any one can really say for sure either way.
Would Brook have even known an orbital could lead to blindness? Maybe he fights harder, who knows maybe he isn't so timid when he gets the injury and changes his whole game plan? Brook stealing that fight from CEJ was truly pathetic and his career is in tatters for taking the money, we all knew GGG was going to stop him, and now we know he killed his career. Brook is not even a big 154lber (he is huge for 147 though) and GGG is a legit supermiddle who boils to 160 GGG would have had to fight CEJ!!! who was he going to make that coin against? The 1 week deadline was pathetic and without Brook what were his options? FFS he would have been begging to fight Jr.
All speculation. As others have said Spences body work affected Brook the 2nd half of the fight. Might of panned out the same way if Brook didn't get beatdown by GGG and then boil back down to 147. We will never know.
I remember seeing Brooks own fans saying Khan had a better chance of beating Canelo than Brook did of beating GGG.
Yeah but you countered that by saying that Brook was 90/85% himself. If that's the case then you have to give Spence the same ratio. He was only 90/85% himself. Fair is fair.
I think he will last the distance with spence. As to who will win, I'm not sure, spence is a killer and he did the same to everyone so far.
Spence did his job and won his title on the road. He gets full props for that. Brook I believe harmed himself by taking that risk. i still think Spence would win based on his style speed and power. Just think Brook would have made it to 12
I think that was what got me on my bucket, but I did still jump the gun a little. Either way, it was a grand fight and you can't take anything away from either.
