To be fair Brook probably wasn't worried about the eye's until he felt the power of Spence. He was fine up until around 7th round. Obviously when the eye went the demons started flooding back. Bellew is a *****.
How is he avoiding his mandatory, he's not the world champion? He has the opportunity to become a two weight world champion...now that's a legacy surely. It's becoming the heavyweight champion of the world that would really stamp his name on the sport. The cruiserweight division doesn't exactly grab the publics imagination (sadly).
WBC Champion Emeritus wasn't he? The guy he avoided holds the belt, warriors' code eh...... He can't talk **** about Brook.
Burns skipped away from the action for 12 rounds and never threw any punches - the most gutless title defence one will ever see.
Bellew against a fighter the level of spence would've been taken out before round 6. Hes not on either of their level !
The only fighter of the same level as Spence that Bellew has fought is Stevenson. That was the biggest fight of his life and he put up one of the most forgettable world title performances you can imagine. This was after telling everyone over and over again that he was willing to die in the ring. He was the much bigger man and spent the complete fight on the back foot. Soon as he was hit by Stevenson he went down and didn't throw back. There is something really nasty about Bellew and beating a crippled David Haye has exacerbate it. He's a bully that acts as if he is a warrior in the same league as British legends like Froch, Benn and Eubank Snr. He's won a belt in a division that no one cares about against a champion that no one had heard of. I did have respect for him after winning the belt as I thought he'd never be a champion after the Stevenson fight but beating a Haye has gone to his head.
I don't like to see fighters go out like that but I fully understand why brook took the knee. One eye injury and knowing the other eye has been damaged not seeing you're opponent clearly is a recipe for disaster. You carry on and get hurt seriously all for people to say 'Kell was brave'. That's ridiculous. You look after yourself and fight another day. Bellew I thought didn't take that into account and just thought brook quit cos he was losing which I don't agree with. His effort vs Stevenson is a prime example of a fighter giving up as soon as he got touched and that was after Bellew talked a lot prior to the fight.
as a boxing commentator, Bellew is entitled to his opinion, but he was just too aggressive when he was going on about Brook quitting. It came accross as callous I personally have no problem with Brook stopping, your eyesight is so important, he's a young man still, at the end of his boxing career but has the rest of his life still
I don't think Bellew has actually beaten a champion for any of the titles he won, luckily for him they've always been vacant but I could be wrong! Haye came into the fight too heavy with the mindset that he only had to hit Bellew once & the fight would be over which proved to be disastrous but IF & it's a big if Haye can get fit again & the rematch with Bellew happens, the outcome will be completely different!
Haye is an invalid. I doubt he can ever get back to health. He's just not built for longetivty. Personally I wouldn't like to see it. He's a shell and would prob lose again. Further pumping Bellews opinion of himself..
