If dempsey was to challenge for the title in place of marciano against Walcott, would it have the ingredients for a classic fight.? Contrasting style s, a young gun like jack challenging for the title against the late bloomer Walcott. Dempsey with his swarming style, ripping off hard bone cracking punches , against the foxy , elusive, counter punching Jersey Joe? Walcott far removed from the giant willard as can be facing a heavy who can pound you senseless.
How do you see it happening between these two very different fighter s,?

It would have been a real classic...right up until that moment that Dempsey catches Walcott and puts his lights out.

    Perfect answer.
Walcott one of my favorites too! Used to study that footwork when I boxed.
RC said it perfectly though no need for me to elaborate

Lol poor Joe. How many rounds do you reckon Jersey last s though. Cos we know from marciano s fight that he can make things extremely difficult. He's got that lovely way of just switching those feet then banging a hook /cross over. He's the only one to put rock, Charles and Lewis down, so we know he can dig a little. Or is it dempsey s swarm that prevent s Walcott from having a chance here?

I really love watching Walcott but for me Dempsey is a completely different animal than Rocky.
Prime Dempsey was so light on his feet and so quick like a tiger. He was fast of hand and foot. It will a bit of time to figure Walcott out but Dempsey will and he will put Walcott in a very uncontrollable position. I see Jack by KO between rds 6 and 8

He'd give Jack a few frustrating rounds, I'm sure of it. If Jack was the challenger and Jersey the champ he'd do his best to hold on to that belt. It would be good to see imo, contrast of style s. But I can't in all honesty see jers winning. A ko is sure to come along before the tenth. But I believe Jersey makes Jack work for it.

:thumbsup:Thanks Robert! I happen to love JJW's clever, shifty moves and that classy pedigree he has, but I don't see him surviving a full 10 rounds with Dempsey. He'd have his moments for sure, but the canvas would hit him in the face and the walls would come crashing down on him sooner rather than later.

"Bad Moon Rising" would be on the soundtrack of this fight....or else it would be Dempsey's entrance music.

Fergy, JJW would get confident, have a few rounds in the bank, but he would be asking "what the hell happened again?" in the dressing room afterwards.

Lesser people stunned and hurt Dempsey pretty bad. I would discount JJW chances here. He'll catch Dempsey coming in with a counter left hook or straight cross... Dempsey will go down. What happens afterwards who knows. Make no mistake though... He will catch Dempsey at some point early on. Cruder boxers did.

If Dempsey could beat Walcott it would be his greatest achievement in the ring.
