Has anyone fought as high a level of competition for as long as J.C Chavez?

I can only think of a few names:

    Ali
Robinson (although he did duck guys)
    Duran
    W. Klistchko (don't scoff.)
    Hagler
    Holyfield

Forget the last few years of his career but Ezz Charles was fighting the best for almost as long a timeframe. From ken overlin a year into the pro game to rocky marciano around 14yrs later. Theres a helluva lot of good names in between.

Bob Fitzsimmons fought Jack Non-Periel Dempsey in 1891 and Jack Johnson in 1907 and man a great fighter in between.

You'll be hard pressed to find a fighter below middle to have a resume like chavez. I was hoping he'd make it to 100-0 but he did near enough.

He had quality but a sizeable percentage were stay busy fights against no hopers.

Whitaker was a better fighter than him, but had way less fights.

They fought a few great fighters, but a lot of Joe Romans also.

    But that wasn't the case. You look at the "no hopers" Chavez fought;

    Ruben Castillo
    Roger Mayweather
    Rocky Lockeridge
    Juan LaPorte
    Sammy Fuentes
    Kyun Duk-Ahn
    John Duplessis
    Lonnie Smith
    Angel Hernandez
    Frankie Mitchell
    Hector Camacho
    Marty Jakubowski
    Greg Haugen
    Terrance Alli
    Andy Holligan
    Tony Lopez
    Giovanni Parisi
    David Kamau
    Joey Gamache
    Tony MArtin
    Miguel Angel Gonzalez
    Ivan Robinson

Half of these guys were world champs at one time or another, and Chavez had very few problems, stopped most.

This does not even mention the big Hall of famers
    Whittaker
    DLH
    Jose Luis Ramirez
    Medrick Taylor
    Frankie Randall
    Tszyu

Half and half serious. But he came a Damn sight nearer than most active fighters.

Just rewatched Chavez-Taylor I. He probably shouldn't have won that. Richard Steele ****ed up.

Plus, it was fight of the year in 1990 despite Banke-Zaragoza 2, Davis-Breland, Eubank-Benn 1, and Mercer-Cooper having better action. Bit of an overrated fight. Good pace by Taylor but not competitive beyond one late round and a surprise knockout ending. Has that Castro-Jackson 1 or Ali-Foreman twist but that shouldn't be enough to get fight of the year honors.

I can remember the Taylor fight well. The sight of steele stopping the fight with two second s to go and the uproar after wards.. Doesn't seem that long ago.

Tbh all you've done here is prove that a sizeable percentage of his resume was against no hopers.
