"Gavin Rees W12 Souleymane Mbaye... Gavin Rees is now boxing's least-known world champion as the unbeaten but unheralded junior welterweight came from nowhere to outpoint WBA titlist Souleymane Mbaye in Rees' home country, Wales, on Saturday. Rees, 27-0 with 0, yes ZERO knockouts, defeated Mbaye by scores of 118-110, 117-112 and 117-113. Although he is now 27-0, Rees was in his first big fight since... well, ever. His best previous win was a 2001 win over Nikolai Eremeev, then 15-1-2. Since then, Rees has built up a record against mostly professional losers, but the strategy has paid off with the acquisition of the WBA belt. Mbaye, now 35-2-1, was coming off a draw against Andreas Kotelnik. He has been suing the WBA since 2005. Boxing historians will confirm shortly whether Rees is the first boxer to claim a world title without ever knocking an opponent out (even light hitting Sven Ottke has 1 KO on his ledger when he claimed the IBF super middleweight belt). source: bbc"

I checked the BBC website and I don't see it reporting him with ZERO kos.

Truth is Rees has ko'd 13 people. A quick look on boxrec shows this.

**** reporting happens all the time, I was reading a build up to the Arthur-Gogoladzefight & the reporter talked about the only man to beat Arthur was englishman Michael Gomez. Of course Gomez is irish, you would think the green white & gold shorts & a shamrock shaved into his skull would have given the game away, but no!

The so called journos who write for the mainstream media couldnt hold a candle to the average boxing fan who posts on this forum nowadays.

We whup their asses knowledge wise.

I agree. I think it becomes a job to them, where for us it is passion and obsession rolled into one.

There's more to being a journo than knowledge of results and how to fight Dunky - could you write an un-biased report Dunky on a Scotsman fighting a non Scotsman and perhaps not - dare i say it - winning?:admin

'Scott Shaffer'. Looks like there are a bunch of shite Kraut-Yanks emerging to inflict their journalistic shite on the world. Just look at that anti-British arsewipe Dettloff (The Ring 'journalist'), here's his latest: 'Before you get all tingly about the signing of Joe Calzaghe-Mikkel Kessler, remember that there’s a reasonable chance that a month before the fight Calzaghe will pull out with an injured placenta or something and two weeks later sign to fight Danilo Haussler or Mario Veit or Jim J. Bullock. '.

What a ****ing **** that bloke is.

People complain that Brits are hyped. As much as they are hyped, they are hated.

What is on paper is fact and at the moment are fighters achievements speak for itself!

Hold on a minute there Doggyland. You talk as if boxing journos have no agenda, & write their articles from a stance of complete impartiality!

Just pick up a copy of Boxing news, to find out how utterly biased so called 'journos' can be. Not that I buy that rag anymore, some of the writers for that mag arent old enough to smoke cigarettes, never mind talk about boxing.

So in other words, you are saying none here can touch the likes of Steve Bunce for boxing know-how? I disagree. Wholeheartedly.

As Achilles says, these characters do it to make a living, whereas many here live & breath the sport. OK, so GazOC says we could never be journos cos we cant spell as well as them:huh Who gives a flying **** about grammar, its all about opinions. Give me a guy who knows his boxing & makes great points, as opposed to some great spelling robot that writes for a magazine/newspaper & you turn the page over to the football whilst yawning on a Sunday morning after reading their first word perfect paragraph...

Todays boxing journos arent what they used to be.
