LOL, Cobra taking on Shadow ... should be fun.

It's like the USMC charging the Somme ... the USMC has the firepower, but damn, those Huns are dug in well ;)

What I remember CLEARLY is that same oh **** look appearing on Cotto's face late in the fight. He escaped the Tornado that night

<disclaimer I do think there were loaded gloves in the first fight>

Ahhhhh... GEE's body is gonna take such a beatdown to the point of forcing him to fight at a distance. Alvarez will get respect from the start of the fight and change Fable's game plan.

"Oh ****, they are going to arrest me for assault if this continues" maybe...I'm sure if Margarito died in the ring, you would argue he was just a punch away from making Cotto quit. You're nuts, there's nothing I can do for you. This guy was getting mutilated, his career basically ended, and was completely ineffective for 9 rounds, yet you want to argue about subjective face expressions.

You just love stirring stuff up don't ya? While you’re at it, where do you stand on this : Did you think Cintron deserved to be KO’d?

Thanks for pointing this out. No question about it that everybody was under the impression that he was counted out.

The fight appeared to be over momentarily, but of course the referee made the decision that Cintron did beat the count, so therefore there wasn’t a KO. In a situation like that, it’s the referee’s discretion as to whether to stop the fight or not. I stated that in no uncertain terms that the referee should not have said “10”, because when he says “10” that’s supposed to signify a countout and the end of the fight. The referee absolutely made an error there, however he never actually waived the fight off or indicated that Cintron had actually been stopped. He was engaged in an argument with Cintron about whether or not there had been a headbutt, which perhaps distracted the ref, but yeah he didn’t actually waive the fight off. Rather he pointed for Cintron to go to his corner for the end of the round. In retrospect you cannot deny that Cintron was up (or on his way up as you say) before he said 10, so at that point the ref could have just as easily not said “10” and ruled he was up before being counted out.

And since we’re looking at it, another factor that went against Cintron was the fact that the ref started the count at 5, and if you count from after Cintron went down, he should only have been at 4 when he said “5”. So it was a bit of a fast count.

So I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt to Cintron here : he was off the canvas before the ref counted to 10, the ref started the count at 5 and it appeared to be a fast count at that. And finally the ref made the decision that Cintron was not counted out. Therefore, I don’t see how you can say that Cintron was KO’d matter of factly. You can certainly make that argument, but in reality as much as you disagree, he wasn’t officially counted out. That’s all I was saying. I certainly understand your view of it and that’s fine. It was a great punch by Martinez but it obviously wasn’t enough to put Cintron out.

I’m not debating that he was given extra time, that much is obvious. There was certainly confusion and the additional rest undoubtedly did help Cintron recover. All I was saying was that he didn’t deserve to be KO’d as close as it was due to the facts I pointed out. (quick count started at 5, up before 10, etc) I think we gotta also give massive credit to the heart that Cintron showed to get up from that shot and go 5 more rounds to finish the fight.

I made reference to the fact that the officiating could indeed be criticized. From the point deduction to the knockdown, no question the ref made errors. All I was stating was that in reality, however controversial, a KO did not occur, and that the result of the bout was a draw. Obviously everybody thought Martinez deserved to win, however round by round Cintron may have stolen enough of those rounds to get a draw. We have this problem a lot as to whether certain scorecards are reasonable or not. The point deduction would offset the additional point for a knockdown, so basically all you would need is Cintron winning 6 rounds to get the draw. Though it seemed that Martinez was winning, if Cintron won enough of the close rounds a draw could be reasonable. Even if you thought Martinez won the fight rather comfortably, Cintron certainly wasn’t completely dominated or anything, and that was where I was coming from. The fact is that someway, somehow, Cintron not only managed to go the distance, but got a draw on two of those scorecards. He must have been doing something right for two judges to make that assessment.

He pressed for the knockout at the end of the 7th, he got in another punch after the big punch that sent Cintron to the ropes before the ref could get in. As far as his opposition, how many big punchers did Cintron face? Well after the Martinez bout, Cintron fought an undefeated Angulo in 2009 and he gave Angulo his first loss. I think you’ll agree that many would have been stopped by Angulo back in 2009.

Cintron’s opposition hasn’t been terrible, he’s fought some good fighters, some bad fighters, and levels in between. Like I said, Angle back in 2009 was knocking out a lot of people. I wouldn’t shortchange Cintron’s resume as poor, but aside from Margarito he hasn’t fought that many huge punchers either. All I’m saying is that Canelo stopping Cintron is impressive, while others like Prime Angulo or Prime Martinez or even guys like Lovemore Ndou or Adrian Granados couldn’t do that. That’s literally my entire point. It shows that Canelo has some power behind his punches to be able to do that to Cintron while others couldn’t.

I'm simply stating facts. (Canelo stopped Cintron, Martinez didn't stop Cintron, the fight went the distance and was a draw)

Obviously everybody thought Martinez won. The fight was clouded in controversey, the knockdown was thought to be a knockout, but not everybody thought it should have been a knockout. (Kellerman for example said he thought Cintron barely beat the 10 count)

After seeing the replay, I was fine with the match continuing, but of course like everyone else at the time I thought the fight was over.

You are welcome to have whatever fringe conspiracy theory you chose to embrace.

The reality of the situation is I had Cotto not only pitching a shut out for 9 rounds but in the eyes of most observer was dishing out a severe beating to an opponent who despite trying was incapable of defending himself or launching effective offense. The doctor threatened to stop it after Round 8 but the corner begged for another round...so it's not like it was a shock. Margarito needed to make a big impression in round 9, instead he slapped at Cotto's guard while getting his head bounced around like a rag doll with loud punches.

    I appreciate you acknowledging that.

He made waving gestures. Corners just don't empty and judges hand in their scorecards on a whim. And of course he changed his mind. His official ruling stands, but we are free to disagree with it, and rightly call it a strange confusing blunder that either cost Martinez a KO or a chance at one.

Doesn't really matter, the ref's count is the count that matters, though he overruled his own count anyway. It's a similar situation to Chuvalo's KO over Jerry Quarry.

But when evaluating Cintron or any fighter you can't just stick to official results.

    Which is not reasonable.

Not really, as stated previous in this thread I don't think of much of Angulo as a fighter. He has one decent win via a controversial punch against Rosado.

Since the Williams mess, Canelo has been his only noteworthy opponent.

I think it shows he can be an above average finisher.

I kinda saw that fight the same way. I thought Margarito was on the verge of wearing him down. I think I will watch it again within the next couple of days.

It was blatantly obvious to me I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, We can argue from now till Christmas it wont alter the fact that an innocent mans career was tarnished by the lies of a worthless POS & blatant corruption
