Rubin Carter was pretty athletic even if he wasn't very skilled. I'm trying to think, and history is full of muscle bound idiots like Battling Siki who were ripped like the incredible Hulk. Freddie Mills must have been a monster physically to be champion without a drop of boxing talent, flailing away like a ****** at opponents. Rocky Graziano supposedly barely trained but was able to hang with the best middleweights.

RJJ is the usual answer just because he was so fast and strong he didn't need technique, same reason as Naseem Hamed gets mentioned. Ray Leonard and Ray Robinson were incredibly gifted in both speed and strength but were also supremely skilled.

You know, for some reason I don't quite know why we usually get a really strong guy or a really fast guy but not many guys are strong and fast. I mean George Foreman or Ruben Olivares hit ridiculously hard but guys like Wilfred Benitez or Hector Camacho were way fast. Zab Judah, Floyd Mayweather fast but not a lot of pop. Pacquiao was fast and strong in his prime. Golovkin is strong. Oh, Julian Jackson was fast and strong. How fast was Gerald McClellan?

All these names are legit proof that athleticism does not equal success in boxing

Sugar Ray Robinson. If that man had access to modern PED in his day, this question wouldn't even be asked in the first place.

If you've heard of them and they've fought at world level they are pretty successful you turkey. The problem is with how you define success.
