If Kovalev wins the rematch will he be credited with 2 wins over Ward?

I hope so too. Whoever wins, no controversy this time around.

I thought Kovalev won the first fight by a round, but it could have gone either way, either man getting the decision certainly wouldn't have been a robbery. I don't think the first fight harmed either man's reputation, both gave it all they had and both proved the pre-fight experts wrong in their assumptions. Many predicated a Kovalev victory being by (T)KO, yet he managed to outbox Ward for the first half of the fight and was still very competitive in the second half. While many wondered if Ward would be able to take Kovalev's power and if Kovalev had Ward hurt, would Ward wilt under Kovalev's destructive finishing ability. It's clear that these two guys are the top two in the LHW division without a shadow of a doubt, with or without any belts around their waists. I'm just looking forward to another intriguing fight between two top P4P fighters. It's one of those fights where even in defeat the loser gets more credit than he would have for beating anyone else at 175lbs.

If either guy dominates this rematch we can say he answered legitimate doubts about the close first fight, and sure that he essentially therefore deserved two wins. Either guy. Dominating meaning winning 8 rounds clearly, or not just a knockout but clearing winning before that. Less than that might earn the right to be called the better man, but wouldn't clear up much about the first fight.

If anyone wins clearly tomorrow they'll get credit for winning 1 fight. First fight will be considered "overwritten".

That's a very good example of this situation. Except Sergey will erase ANY doubts on who's better in the rematch by finishing that POS Ward before the 9th.

I think this will be WARD'S last fight-win or lose. He just doesn't seem the same to me and maybe he knows it.
But I hope respect is shown to the winner, regardless. Shake hands, complement each other. Class will be seen as a better impulse than anger. Both these guys are great in their own right.

Kovalev may come around at the end of the fight regardless of the ending...
