Why do people say pacquiao is an 8 div world champ?

Tears, start to finish. Two paragraphs of tears. Floyd isn't as great as you think he is, get over it. He's around 30-35th all time coming to really think of it in terms of overall greatness and arguably top 10 of all time in terms of ability prime for prime - that's a compliment for someone who hasn't fought a single at-or-near prime ATG/Higher/Mid tier HOF in his 19 year boxing career.

Ring magazine's top 20 fighters since WW2 mind you this was before PBF-Pac. Where's Pac on that list?

In the October issue of Ring magazine they asked 20 writers and historians to list their top 20 fighters since World War 2.
Points were awarded to each fighter = 20 points for 1st place placing, 19 points for 2nd place ect.
Here is how the total came out. The number of 1st place votes are in brackets.

For that alone...what a stupid list.

 

The first sentence of your post speaks volumes on how much greater Floyd was. What other fighter in history had 26 title fights and was favored in 24 of them?

 

Pimp C has an addiction of posting lists that are the most laughable ever.
Julio Cesar Chavez for example is considered greater than Ezzard Charles in that list. Charles is around 5th all time - he is one of the ultimate GOATs.

 

Charles beat the same guys Moore did, more impressively, also tack on wins over HW greats Walcott and Louis, and not one but two superior performances against Maricano....and yeah, the fact Charles is 3-0 against the Mongoose while both men were prime. Moore was great but Charles was greater. It just doesn't get any more clear cut than that.

And yes I'm a big Chavez fan but he doesn't belong over Charles, that is insanely stupid. That list proves nothing but how incompetent RING is these days.

 

Think about this for a second

A. Winning a lot of fights that you are meant to win

or

B. Winning a lot of fights that you had no right to win at all

 

Whatever titles or weight classes he moved up in - he was and just maybe still awesome. Can't we focus on that?

Nope. The record books state Pac was lineal in 5 divisions. And was a World Champion in 6.

This. Can't give credit for catchweight fights, since there are more than enough weight classes already. Michael Spinks beating Larry Holmes would've been meaningless if Spinks forced Holmes to fight him at a catchweight. Spinks just moved up and won twice.

 

Pacman was the lineal Champion in 5 divisions. All wins at the full division limit. The facts really aren't that hard to come across, it's not like we are dealing with an obscure boxer from the 20s.

You know who was awarded a lineal title at a catchweight? Mayweather after defeating Canelo. I don't think that should be counted personally.

 

5 is less than 8 which was my point. We have 18 divisions. Pick one and fight at the limit. There is no reason to fight at a 'catchweight' with that many divisions. It cheapens the sport.
