If you're a Kovalev fan, you better not pretend that Kovalev's punches are automatically bigger than Ward's without considering the actual effect the punch had...just because Kovalev is the bigger puncher.
Kovalev is exceptional on the outside, but Ward can still score punches from the outside. Outside isn't the only range. What about in-fighting? If Ward is able to sneak in body punches, they do count. Headshots are not the only scoring punches.

If you're a Ward fan, you better not be just focussing your attention on Ward evading punches. Hitting and not getting hit is not what boxing is only about. It's far more multifaceted than that. Get over that myth.

This fight could end up being very close again, and you could be focussing your scoring too much on factors you appreciate about your favourite fighter. I will be absolutely sick if it turns out close and I see the usual suspects on both sides scoring it for their favourite fighters.

Remember ring generalship is a real scoring criteria and that this is not an amateur boxing match where you have to simply outland your opponent. Pac outlanded Mayweather but Mayweather won at least 8-4.

TRY not to watch with beer goggles, their first meeting proves how difficult it is to score their fight.

    Thank you, enjoy the fight.

Floyd not only outthrew Pacquiao, he outlanded Pacquiao 2-1 and won at least 10 rounds. 9 rounds if you're on Pacquiao's paystub.

I'm afraid I'll have my beer goggles on. That's why I will always watch a repeat of the fight a week later if it's a close decision.
    With the volume off!

Just for the record I did this for the first fight.
I had kovalev winning drunk and sober

That's fair enough. I'll definitely be tired - 4am in the UK. Without a doubt the second time I'll be watching is with the volume off. Historic night though!

Nice post although almost impossible on a very close fight.
Boxing is so subjective even if you think you understand the whole 4 scoring criterias, certain interpretation still leads to different result.
For example, I still don't understand how the 3 judges scored round 10 for ward?!?

i watched the fight once and scored if for ward i think 114-113 and after i said how? ward knows the rules of boxing and knows how to compete and score points. u have to knock him out and if u dont hes at least gonna compete. other then kovalev not to many guys were competitive with him. he ran right threw a number of guys. only guys that made him work were boone, bika, an kovalev. every one else got out classed and roughed up

Nice post, eventhough ward and mayweather style are not my cup of tea, you can help but respect them, they know how to win a boxing match. Ward knew he was outgunned in the Kovalev fight and got KD early, he wasn't discouraged but slowly clawed and scratched his way in to at least makes most rounds questionable. That's a trait of a very good fighter.

oh yeah for sure. and alot of times we dont like a certain fighter like ward or mayweather . but really nowone really makes these guys fights. mayweather has a such a huge sample size so theres good fights ok fights n boring fights. but people always seems to remember the boring fights. mostly because at end of his career he was a master boxer an everyone really tuned in at the end. but the end still delivered sum good fights. cotto and maidana were good fights. and going back he had sum nice fights for the public to see for example zab judah ,, and demarcus corley .go even farther back n watch castillo who actually beat him i believe and emanuel augustus fight was great ! but by the time everyone started watching he was able to learn the business side of things and that really increased his chances of winning possibly. even guys like victor ortiz was really makin mayweather pull out all the tools . yes mayweather was still woopin ortiz but he was making mayweather fight. something alot of guys fail to do. for example jmm, pac, guerrero, baldomir , canelo so yea ppl remember those n there boring . even oscar fight was pretty bad when they had there moments no thunderous shots were thrown.
