Despite the clear replay proof the shot was low you still have idiots on here claiming it was border line, it wasn't borderline it was clearly low. Some saying Kovalev was spent as well but Kovalev started the 8th pretty strongly, flurried hard shots to Wards body and was even beginning to push Ward back in the clinches, then the low blow in the 8th happened, which turned the fight and then that right hand, then 2-3 more low blows. Remove the low blows and we might have seen it go the distance, I still think Ward would of won but it wouldn't have been this bull**** ending.
http://imgur.com/a/fbSAA are you telling me kovalev was hurt by that tap? he was spent, why did he fold over if he was still feeling strong he was running on empty in round 8 despite trying to fight back he had nothing left
You have to let these guys fight to the finish... they both have earned it... either Kovalev would have recovered or Ward would have destroyed him with KO... at least let it be a clear ending... sad I think the ref took away from both fighters...
That shot was clearly low though. While it didn't hit him in the groin more like the upper leg it was still low. Was he crying wolf, yeah but to high light he was getting hit low to the ref. Was Kovalev tired, sure he was, he admitted as much but he was very much in the fight prior to the low shot in the 8th. That low shot in the 8th led to the right hand that followed shortly after. And it's impossible to deny the final blow was low the video evidence is clear.
Agreed, I think Ward would of won either way. It was a really good fight prior to the bull**** decision by the ref.
I was so upset... why would he take the chance away from Kovalev to show he is a warrior... and on the other side to show that Ward can spark out the monster.... just sooo upsetting
Watch carefully . . 1m.20sec This content is protected The second time Kovalev slouches over from a body attack. Hitting below the belt line is an illegal punch. Hitting on the belt line is a legal punch. The fight ender went bellow the belt line , but Weeks stopped it because Kovalev was once again slouched over not fighting back from legal punches to his body and head.
Even the god damn ref admits they're low, and people are still arguing this? This content is protected
Did you miss that the ref broke up the fighters giving Kov time to recover from a low blow in the early rounds?
Clearly low. Should not have been stopped there. Kovalev was hurt but not out of the fight. Unfortunately there will be no rematch and this rivalry will always be marked with controversy.
I can't believe anyone can seriously claim the stoppage was good. It was terrible. There were some good legit punches landed by Ward in that round but there were at least two clear and damaging low blows landed and the referee ignored and pretended all was good. The final blow was obviously a foul and that was the one that caused a reaction in Kovalev that prompted the referee stoppage. One of the worst endings to a fight you'll ever see. Even a child with the barest understanding of boxing rules or a fair fight would see this was wrong. It's stuff like this that makes people think boxing is just a corrupt joke of a 'sport'.
Yeah that's a real shame. I had Ward winning the first fight and think he would of gone on to win a decision, maybe even a late stoppage in this fight. But both these fights results don't conclusively confirm Ward was the better man to many people. Personally I feel Ward is the better of the too, but I know a lot of people will have doubts and point to a close fight and a bull**** stoppage as the reasons why.
