CORBETT OF THE SULLIVAN MATCH V ROY JONES OF THE RUIZ FIGHT? 20 ROUND S DO WE WRITE OFF CORBETT IN THIS MATCH UP? IS JONES OVER RATED AT HEAVY WITH JUST ONE WIN? OLD TIMER V MODERN?
I can't conceive of a way Corbett wins. Maybe if God struck roy blind I would give you 50/50 odds. Corbett obviously the far better heavyweight.
That's the enigma isn't it? Roy Jones wins easily but Corbett the better heavy. I actually think if Jones doesn't get Corbett early then by the last round it's James hand been raised. I don't think this is one of those modern fighters been so good to blow the old timer away fight s. I ve come to the conclusion that Jones against any one but ruiz loses. So Jones has to try and ko Corbett or else at some point James takes over.
True but for some reason I just see Corbett, if he survive s the first few rounds taking Jones deep. I believe he was mentally tough enough to do this and certainly intelligent enough. I've thought about it, Jones beat ruiz and that's it. He knew he wasn't a genuine heavy. But Corbett had been in hard tough fight s with heavy s. He knew he could do it. He could take Roy in to the late rounds and still be there throwing punch. Got a feeling he could pull off a upset.
What did Corbett weigh as a heavy? 180? 190? Regardless, Jones is bigger in this scenario. Seeing Corbett on film, its hard to imagine him lasting more than a couple rounds. Get real people. Jones by embarassing murder. And Fergy, you say "I ve come to the conclusion that Jones against any one but ruiz loses. So Jones has to try and ko Corbett or else at some point James takes over." That's one of the most ridiculous statements I've read here. So Ruiz is literally the only heavy Jones would beat? Pure gold! I'll pick super middle or LHW Jones over Corbett all day. Its not like we're talking about Greb or someone who has no footage available, but we've all seen all the available film of Corbett, and that should be enough. I guess it isnt.
I'll add the saying: Just because he didn't do it doesn't mean he couldn't do it. Just because Larry Holmes or Bob Foster didnt have good opponents doesn't mean they couldn't compete with the ATG heavies and LHWs...
Corbett, easy pick for me. RJJ wouldn't have the ability to keep up with Corbetts pace for a 20 rounder.
Look pal.. This fight s taking place in 1900 and Jones is getting beat! When I said ruiz is the only guy Jones beat I meant the only level of heavy he would beat. Any way glad u liked it. Now stick that in your pipe and smoke it!!! Lol
Are you saying holmes didn't have great opponents?? Now that's classic gold.. Are you saying weaver and cobb weren't ATG s? Are you mad??!
Most ridiculous statement? You've not been on here long enough! I've been here since January, and I've seen some corkers!
