If Ward had been able to win clean none of this talk would be happening. Golovjin is p4p #1 If he beats Canelo clean. If not Ward is.
The difference here is that the ref didn't throw the flag. The way Kov was bent in half from legal body shots obscured his vision. Better analogy is if there is holding on the TD play that the ref doesn't see or call. Touchdown stands.
To me it was a bad stoppage only because it took away from Ward truly finishing Kov. Kov was finished.
I think that Kovalev was hurt by the low blow, but maybe not as hurt as he made out. I suspect that he thought the ref would call a time out for it and instead he got called out as a TKO. He miscalculated, that's what. What he should have done was punched Ward in the nuts back. Worst case he gets points deducted and Ward gets 5 minutes which allow him to recover too. That all said, the Ward punches were not the lowest I've seen. It's not like when Golota bounced Bowe's goons off the back of his throat.
Explain this **** kovalev fans that are in denial, Round 7 Kovalev gets the "slightest tap" from ward and he folds over exaggerated as ****!, The man had had enough, He no longer wanted to fight, He was finished in round 7 desperate for a way out, Ward lit him up in round 8 and that was the end, he did the same thing again, The damage was already done and kovalev new it, anytime ward came close to the belt line he used it as way out. I disagree. His stamina looked better than in the first fight, though still not great. He opened up the 8th with a salvo of punches that showed he was still in the game and dangerous. Actually Ward impressed me with his grit and gameplan. I had Kovalev consistently ahead up till the 8th, and Ward never wavered in what he was doing. To me his defence was better in many ways than the first time round and he was also definitely hitting harder. I think he's growing into 175. That was a BS stoppage because I reckon the last 4 rounds would have been a treat. The ref should have done his job properly.
No he didn't. The last one was borderline and he was bent over. Ward broke him down long before that. Ward looked stronger than Kov, he was punching harder than Kov, and he took Kovs best. Kov was doomed early and the inevitable was coming.
Are you dumb? Yes it was low but it was the smallest ****ing tap to ever walk the face of the earth that's the point. Kovalev was crying wolf, that low shot had ZERO effect on the fight, Kovalev was already done and he was looking for a way out.
Exactly! Anytime you see a guy who constantly cries about borderline low blows they're looking for a way out. He also turned his back to Ward which was another sign. Kovalev was mentally checked out of the fight and was ready to pull a No Mas. If he wasn't stopped he would have quit in a round or two anyway, he has it in him. Typical bully.
Kov was losing the fight. The stoppage should've been a standing 8 count. But Kov was done. Ward seemed to be getting stronger and stronger and Kov was weakening.
Dude how can anyone say the last punch was borderline?? It was on the capital B that was well below the belt line. It wasn't a direct ball shot as some have said, but it was below the belt line and makes it an illegal punch.
