I know I have some years on me ,but that fight wasn't exactly thrilling,,,I got the feeling that the Camden Buzzsaw would have ripped through both men inside 10 rounds brutally. I think the last two fights exposed these guys as second tier champions in the Light heavyweight division, thoughts?

They are very good at what they do. Arguably the best fighters in the sport.

For Ward he has great inside game, great accuracy, great footwork, great conditioning, solid chin, good body attack, good ring IQ, great punch arsenal. He's a dynamic fighter.

Kovalev is extremely precise and has huge power.

I think Ward could have beaten Qawi....... I think Qawi destroys Kovalev, just a bad matchup for Kova. Shorter fighters that have some pop have been the ones to put Kova down in the past Attoev in the AM's stretched him, Boone dropped him.......

I be honest, i'm not seeing this huge power. Precise ?very much so. Stevenson is someone with huge power. Kov i'd class as a strong puncher !

I don't know man. Kovalev has knocked people down with his jab. He's landed 1 flush right on Andre Ward in 20 rounds and just that single punch put Ward down.

Ward is a complete fighter and a master boxer with dirty tactics.

Kovalev is a one dimensional slugger with very good power and a great jab, bad stamina, bad ring iq and no inside game who has average punch variety and throws mostly straight punches.

I'm not biased at all, i'm not a fan of either of them, it's just the way i see it.

Ward is massively overrated, his skills are nowhere near at a Mayweather level. He's a top fouler and that's about it. If clinching and hitting counts as great inside work then yes he's the master....

Ward has been dropped though before. He punishes more so imo

they are both p4p top 3 locks. when you get 2 highly skilled fighters like this fighting eachother it rarely does turn out good viewing especially when you consider their styles

Neither would beat the top tier light heavyweight greats of the past. Ward was best at 168 from 2009-2012ish. He isn't rangy enough to deal with the best boxers (who were far superior to Kovalev), nor would he be able to outfight and outhustle the guys who really bring it with historically great skill. Can't imagine Sergey reacting well to the beasts of the 1970s/1980s taking his shots and throwing bombs back in return. His durability issues would do him in.

I'd favor Charles, Moore, Foster, Galindez, Saad, Conteh, Qawi, Spinks, and Jones, among others, over both. Not a knock on them. Ward is a great fighter and Kovalev is really solid, but at LHW, they aren't first tier. I'm not so sure Sergey comes out victorious in battles with guys like Yaqui Lopez or Marvin Johnson. Michael Moorer could potentially spark him, too.

Ward is top ten p4p in the last decade but with all his dirty tactics and pre fight advantages he needs (hometown venue, judges, ref)... I think maybe if you took those away he might have a couple of L now and would actually be lower...

Kovalev is good and has great power but lacks in certain areas to make him a true great of the sport...

    I agree.
Andre Ward is probably on the same level as Virgil Hill was.
Kovalev not even that, I suppose.

Ward is an ATG. Kovalev is just a good fighter.

Seems that good fighter won the first fight in most people's eyes and was winning on most people's cards in the 2nd before low-blow gate occurred. In both fights they are equals, if you state differently you're clearly underestimating the other fighter in this case.
