Serious question how much do you think a fighter like Dan Blackwell receives each fight??? Does anyone have any insight? Surely I hope at least a couple grand?? How much did Dustin Nichols receive to fight Wilder?? I'm just curious how much Journeymen get paid to take on Prospects. Ticket sales may determine? I always wondered Thanks
I know UK journeymen get around £1,250 per fight. More if they get asked to "move them around a bit". Although most journeymen wouldn't admit to that.
Nice thanks for the info bro, not the worst pay. And there is always the possibility of becoming a fighter like Johnny Nelson
"Not the worst pay". It's appalling! When you add in the training it's probably below minimum wage. All for risking your life in the name of entertainment.
Many journeymen, at least UK based ones, can fight 3-4 times a month. Often they take fights at short notice, sometimes at only a week or so notice. That's why sometimes you see journeyman not in the best shape because they don't have the training camps that prospects have, which is obviously an unfair advantage to start with, but their job isn't to really win the fight, it is predominantly to get through the fight, give the prospect a workout/gain experience and, most importantly, not to get cut so they can fight the following week. One thing is for sure, like you say, they are most definitely risking their life in the name of entertainment, while receiving little to no thanks for it.
Lets be honest, its a fúcking shít way of making a living. Being a literal human punchbag for a a grand or two (dont know how much after training costs). And at what price? Brain damage? Death? Nah, man. Fair play to those that are journeymen and much respect to them, because they are the bloodline of this sport, but fúck I'd rather clean the streets and have all my faculties intact and know and recognise my loved ones.
A friend of mine earnt like 500€ in his debut in 1998 or so (old currency, not euros obviously). You can translate that to 800-900€ nowadays, more or less. Former amateur champion of my country twice. But you can't make a living by boxing in my country anyway, so... not a very useful information I guess.
It's a livin'. This content is protected Remember that scene after the first fight in Rocky when him and Spider Rico are in the locker room with the promoter counting their money. "Now you Rico get blah blah blah which is $17.80 after gym fees and taxes. And as the winner, you Rocky get $40.50." Rocky "When can I get another fight?" It can't be about the money, because there is none. How much could two unknown guys fighting off camera in a small club possibly make? At that level, it's not a full time job. It's an expensive hobby.
A good journeyman is valuable (which is why prospects aren't really supposed to go all out trying to destroy them), but you wouldn't know by the paycheck. Bax nailed it.
I think journeymen, but it's a tough one. Sparring partners are used as and when needed, but, like Rock0052 said above, a good journeyman is valuable. A good, reliable journeyman can be in the ring most weekends. Those ones will be bringing home more money, but doing a hell of a lot more to earn that money.
