Would Gerald Washington beat Wilder in a rematch ?

Wilder plays around a bit, then switches the windmill on, and knocks Washington out.

The windmill is like the kill switch against that level of competition.

I'm sorry, but I watched a different fight. Wilder refused to throw punches. I don't know for sure why, but I suspect he was just doing showboating bull****, as he often has in the past.

He doesn't quite know how to entertain. He experimented with "dancing" with Arreola and making fun of the guy, and it didn't quite land with the audience. With Washington he tried to create some drama by not fighting, then suddenly tried for a KO.

 

Honestly, I think Washington is one of the most skilled fighters at heavyweight. He has more skill and a higher variety of punches than Joshua and Klitschko, but those guys have so much size and strength and punching power, that they would probably wear the guy down.

But no, the same thing would happen. As soon as Washington got hit with a right hand, he was mentally defeated. That's how hard Wilder seems to hit. Either that or Washington simply has no chin.

 

Wilder knocks him out again.

A rematch would just go the same way as the last. Washington would be ahead on the cards, then get hit with a big shot - fight over. It's time for Wilder to face some better opposition so we can see how far he can go.

 

I'd favour Wilder to knock him out again. Sure he struggled but this time round he knows he can't box with Washington and will look to take it too him and KO him quicker.

Wilder relies heavily on his size advantages when faced with an opponent of similar size he looked lost in there, falling short with shots and failing to pull the trigger. Fact is nobody rated Washington before who looked less than impressive prior to the Wilder fight, needing some luck to scrape by Mansour. But as in previous fights Wilder's power bailed him out and would do so again in the rematch.

 

It was time he faced better opposition several fights ago, we just need to accept he has no plans to step up anytime soon. He'll keep fighting cherry picked opponents until he decides to cash out.
