    Latest news:

Marco Huck joins the tournament. Glowacki to be confirmed soon. Usyk and Kudryashov in advanced negotiations to join the tournament.

Usyk has indicated on FB that he will be in the tournament.
Kalenga has confirmed his application. However, I don't expect him to get a main draw spot, he may be one of the two substitutes however.

That would be a very fine field indeed! I think you'll be close, I just wonder if Makabu is going to get in instead of one of Kudryashov, Perez & Glowacki.

Do you have a link confirming Usyk's interest? We saw a tweet from a Ring writer saying he's likely, but I don't see a recent post on Usyk's facebook, and he doesn't seem active on social media at all. The below confirms Makabu and Kalenga want in. If we have the existing four plus Usyk the field could very well to be too good that Kalenga shouldn't make the cut. Between the guys that are at least strongly rumoured I think Usyk, Kudryashov, and Glowacki should obviously be in. Then I'd prefer Makabu, and if not I'd like Perez above Kalenga.

Thanks! I must've been looking at a fan page. And I was obviously wrong that he's not active on social media.

From his post we should expect the WBSS to make it official any day.

Oh yeah, I forgot that there's supposed to be substitutes. Unlike the super 6, if a boxer's injured or can't for whatever reason make a bout on its scheduled date, he's out, and the show goes on.

If you add Usyk in I'm not too fussed who's in the final 3 but if I had my choice......

    Kudryashov
    Perez
    Ward

but i'd feel bad leaving out some of the others any way.

I would have put in a lot of blokes ahead of Diablo tbh

Usyk owns the cruiserweights, but SOB would insist the tournament be in his venue with his personal referee, judges and boxing commission, the reason is obvious!

I wish they were more open about the selection process. They said anyone rated in the top 15 of the alphabets could apply, but who is selected is determined by an 'expert panel'. But if this expert panel has made any decisions they're backroom decisions. The panel should've ranked the 30 or so boxers ranked by the alphabets, and made that list publicly available. Then we could see if Wlod was ranked top 8, or if he got in because someone the panel ranked higher declined. As stacked as cruiserweight is I don't think it's a given he should be top 8.

Ward, I wouldn't mind seeing him in. Joshua is crazy talk, but this would be a more realistic challenge and beating 3 top cruisers to end his career would make him a legend. The tourney however says to be considered a boxer has to have had a bout at the weight, so as Ward hasn't weighed more than 175 before he can't participate. I do think it would be fair to modify that rule, and maybe consider at least champions from the weight class below.
