Most MMA fighters come from grappling arts backgrounds like Wrestling and BJJ. Usually the stand up is taught second. Boxing takes many many years to master and get good enough at to be able to succeed with one punch results. Also they train according to the rules, back when stand up wrestling and throws were allowed in boxing the fighters trained for it. Same with MMA fighters, the fight is allowed to continue on the ground, they would be stupid not to train accordingly for the situation.

I'm not saying that wrestling can't beat boxing. It can if the boxer knows **** all about defending against a takedown. Its not like MMA is like a street fight. There are still rules. You can't bite, you can't kick in the groin, you can't stick thumbs in eyes, you can't wrap your hands around their throat and choke them, etc.

All I'm saying is in a street fight, heat of the moment, pissed off encounter. The first instinct is to throw a punch and two guys who have one punch ko power without gloves (nearly all mm artists and boxers) will only need one punch to knock the other guy out generally speaking.

Look, you make a good argument, and you seem like an intelligent guy.

IIRC you're also a pretty young dude.

May I recommend that you try out some grappling-based form of martial art like Judo, Jiujitsu or wrestling? I think you will be shocked as to how much more effective a fighter you will become. MMA is closer to a streetfight than boxing is, and I guarantee you that cross training is more effective than just one discipline. What do you have to lose? ;)

Other than aldo who has CM knocked out with 1 punch? Does this guy even have 1 punch ko power in 10z gloves? For all we know his power is meh in 10oz gloves.

There is no doubt it makes someone a more effective fighter. I agree with you 100% there. All I'm saying is these guys hit so hard, because they literally have dedicated their lives to it, that it would come down to who lands the first punch. Now if we were talking a young amateur boxer and an mma practitioner of the same experience level and same years of training (pretty much equals) then I would go with the mma guy.

Just wondering, maybe I missed it, but has Mayweather mentioned the fight is happening at all. Everything I hear has just been team McGregor.

it's been a pretty painful journey because I find it hard like either of these two fighters. one is a bragging loudmouth nouveau rich cattle poke buffoon and the other one is worse.

However this is going to encourage so many young people to get into both sports due to the sheer amount of money they are both making. I predict a lot of young people are going to be trying out boxing to see if they have any talent which is a great thing in my view.

    Discuss.

I see the left jab being the difference maker in this fight, Conor's got a hell of a jab but Floyd was able to destroy Pacquiao with that left jab, I see Floyd being able to completely befuddle Conor with that same left jab. That right hand will also be key.

The total difference in ability will be the key to victory.
Floyd does what he wants when he wants.
McGregor obviously has great abilities in his own sport and great natural hand eye coordination to compete at the top of mma...but this is boxing.
I'll try and convince myself the closer the fight night arrives that Connor might have a slight chance because of his weird style, stance and punches from unorthodox angles. But that is just to make it more interesting for myself.

Not sure but i am looking forward to this fight more and more, even tho its a miss match, There are a lot of casual UFC fan's that don't respect or appreciate the skill level in boxing. They honestly believe Connor is going to win or make it competitive, I am looking forward to these people realizing the difference in levels between mma striking and boxing.

I doubt that Sugar Ray Robinson can actually throw a punch.
