Well...
1. Marquez at that time lost to Norwood who was the closest thing to Hamed, but worse. Peak Marquez at 130+ would win, but Hamed wouldnt have fought that version if the fight came off.
2. Hamed and Morales have McCollough in common. Hamed had an easier time.
3. Barrera and Hamed fought a close fight on the cards. It was low output and Hamed mightve won if he landed like four more punches per round than what he did.

Hamed most likely wouldve beaten Tapia and Ayala, but had some sort of split with Barrera, Morales, and Marquez.

Kelly,Robinson, Johnson, Sanchez and Bungu don't constitute that.............hell the 122lbs division was stronger...........147 had Trinidad/ODH and Quartey........HW had all the stars.......the reality is.........below HW and the 168 and 147 divisions and the others I mentioned...........boxing didn't have many strong divisions circa 1994-1997 when Hamed was in his heyday...........there were no longer the big 4 of the 1980s...........LM was ruled by a Terry Norris with no competition.....Cruiser was weak as always, MW was relatively weak with only Hopkins......LH was pretty unexceptional with Hill and Maske.........140 had an ageing chavez............

Irrespective Hamed was a front runner who had some good times when the division was still weak and in the doldrums.....after the competition arrived in 2000 he had to fight one of them........barrera beat him but imo so would have Morales and Marquez , as well as other guys like casamayor ,tapia and ayala who would have fought him at 126 .............no hamed neither "campaigned" or competed in a strong 126 era.........he ruled a weak one and fled when it became strong.......

The scores of the common opponent, McCullough, were almost identical, but Morales chose to slug with granite chinned Wayne. Had he boxed against Wayne, or fought and boxed Hamed, he would have whipped them more convincingly. As far as the scores for MAB Hamed are concerned, another poster on the thread nailed it when he said that the 8 rounds MAB won were an embarrassment for Hamed and the other 4 were close. Hamed was embarrassed in that fight and even he knew it.

He bowed out in the early 2000s despite being under 30. Precisely to avoid Morales, Marquez and would have no doubt not wanted Pac as well.

He quit because he didn't want anither embarrassing class given by instructor Erik or instructor Juan.

All this except I don't know if Tapia or Ayala would have beaten him. Tapia was better at 118 and 122 and Ayala at 122..

NASEEM HAMED WAS PAST PRIME when he faced Barrera. Hamed haters do not want to admit this because they want to feel that Hamed was well and truly defeated.

Hamed for that particular fight had to lose 40lbs in 2 months. He was in the sauna all night for the weigh in. He didn't even train in a meaningful way before the fight.

He became undisciplined even during Ingle era, but after leaving Ingle, it was all downhill. He wasn’t training properly, he was undisciplined. Hamed not training properly with great discipline would affect his style more than others because he did a lot wrong. He actually stopped training properly after the Badillo fight.
He trained himself to go for one shot KO's more and forgoing the style that made him brilliant.
He fell in love with fame, lifestyle, marriage and children. When he had his children, he lost his heart for the sport.
His weird hand problems mounting up over the years were so severe that he had no choice but to retire. Too much power for his hands. Indeed, he went from being a more fluid combination puncher to a one shot finder.

All of these add up to a significant whole. Naseem Hamed ROBBED HIMSELF of the opportunity to see how well a PRIME HAMED would do against a prime Barrera.

Why couldnt you type this in regular font? I agree his style (inevitably imo) went from combination puncher to brawler and seeing how round he is now most likely had eating/training issues. But when you or anyone else have to drag out the bold fonts and fancy italics my alarm system starts ringing. Its akin to shouting in an otherwise quiet conversation in the barbershop.

Probably more the former, but he was still a very talented featherweight. Barrera fought a great, smart fight though. Fight was close through the first 5 or 6 rounds, when Barrera pulled away.
