He seems to have been completely starched for a good 15 seconds or so. https://streamable.com/hzebt It is more akin to Louis than Walcott or Laynes KO loss' to Rocky. Holmes had a crazy chin and recovery. He seemed to go to lalaland, and rebound right back to reality instantly. Would you count Wlads KO over Chambers? And how do you think it compares to Tysons KO over Holmes in the threads context.
Tyson had a free shot on Holmes because he got his arm stuck in the ropes whilst attempting an uppercut.
Similar in that they, at least imo, were down but not completely out. In fact it's probably quite rare that a boxer is kod completely unconscious. Holmes, as you say had a crazy chin anyway. He even claims that the Shavers kd knocked him out cold and the bang on his head woke him up.!
Yeah but Spinks was kinda cowering down while blindly attempting a puny weak right hand that miss as Tyson was coming in so the actual impact of the shot that Tyson caught him with didn't look that brutal though you are right about the way that Spinks fell back. I gotta go with the Thomas KO. Thomas had a good chin but no one could have survived all those many shots landing flush.
Ok it's clear that the Holmes KO wouldn't be your choice on the most brutal Tyson KO so which one would you say was the most brutal?
I'll go with Spinks as well ... granted, he was kind of running for his life after the first knockdown, but that punch - no more than six inches - landed with a crunch that turned out Spinks' lights for good and retired him from boxing. Close second was the Botha KO, which I've gone over before; epically timed, immediately after commentator Ferdie Pacheco opined that Tyson looked like a shot fighter. Again, it was that six-inch right hand that made Botha fold like an accordion. Pacheco wasn't entirely wrong, but it was a nice reminder of what Tyson could do when the planets lined up right ...
