Nobody gives him credit for being smart. People assume he was a mule for Cus and Rooney. He was an intelligent boxer, and even to this day has very poignant views on things. Cus seemed to always make a point of reminding people that Tyson was an intelligent fighter.
Apparently when Tyson first joined the Catskill gym he had a voice akin to Barry White's and was on the verge of becoming the next bass/baritone superstar, the steroid abuse messed his voice up. Tyson tried making a comeback as a singer but it went drastically wrong as we all saw in the Hangover, his rendition of "One Night in Bangkok" was glass shatteringly bad.......
Funny how tyson says he don't believe in talent, yet he was one of the most genetically gifted boxers all time
I think this is a good point. They managed to make it about his height, but he was a solid mass of muscle and speed and he never felt "small" to me. Also looking at him a 16 and he isn't like other 16 year olds for sure. Sent from my B3-A30 using Tapatalk
He was a big 16 year-old, that's for sure. I agree with everything Cus and Mike said there in that video. It's not about talent and the physical, it's about hard work and the power of the will and the mind.
I've read that he was pretty much just as big at 13, when Bobby Stewart first encountered him at Johnstown.
He's correct. Talent is least important. And you're only assuming he was one of the most "genetically gifted". You only see the product after all the hard work has been done.
But Tyson was by all accounts an awe-inspiring physical phenom as an untrained 200-lbish, 13-yo street/juvie hall fighter...
some 16 year olds are huge though. Basically clinically obese but because they are so young, they arent yet in danger of side-effects. If they dont lose it though it usually sets them up for a lifetime of health problems. We will see the genetic element in his children over the next few years. The oldest daughter (?) looks athletic, but it would be interresting to see how the boys have shaped up. Some of them should be adults now surely.
